Record Obama Crowd, the Size of a City By Matthew Mosk
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Sen. Barack Obama has seen his share of large crowds over the last 15 months, but his campaign said they have not approached the numbers gathered along the waterfront here right now.
The campaign, citing figures from Duane Bray, battalion chief of Portland Fire & Rescue, estimated that 75,000 people are watching him speak.
The scene suggests this is not an exaggeration. The sea of heads stretches for half a mile along the grassy embankment, while others watch from kayaks and power boats bobbing on the Willamette River. More hug the rails of the steel bridge that stretches across the water and crowds are even watching from jetties on the opposite shore.

Guys, I was watching a video by Rev. manning and though he is a nutcase it’s absolutely true!!!
I fear for this country because what he was saying was so dead on!
People in America, no matter what religion, will buy “hope.” “Hope” springs eternal. Everyone wants “hope” and “change.”
I truly think that if Obama is elected he will make being leftist more acceptable, just because he is charismatic and people are easily duped by someone who is attractive and charismatic. Hitler easily duped many too because he was charismatic. He wanted “change” as well.
Yes, Drudge I think is working to get Obama elected. I know he always hated Hillary but I’m thinking he may not like McCain either? Maybe he’s sipped on some of the Obama koolaid.
CSpan is all Obama, all the time callers.
My wife has said that, too and she means it
Why, you need the audacity of hope! Seriously, there is a fairly good chance that Obama will self-destruct. His track record so far has been pretty shakey, full of obvious rookie errors with oddball comments, creepy preachers, an antiAmerican antiWhite be-atch for a wife, and all manner of weird personal fits of angry, inappropriate behavior. And the possibility exists that there is a nuclear land mine out there somewhere just waiting for him to make a false step. He has been remarkably sloppy in his statements in the past, and has quite a trail behind him. In short, keep hope alive!
“CSpan is all Obama, all the time callers. “
When does C-Span usually take callers?
I don’t have cable, but can listen online, and can give it a try, and see if I can get through.
OK, what’s really scary here is whoever compared Obama to Juan & Evita Peron.
Argentina wasn’t just prosperous before the Perons came to power circa 1946, it was WAY prosperous, with a predominately European population, automobile assembly plants, beef consumption the highest in the world, industrialization, and a lifestyle that the Depression-era United States regarded with envy. And it took Juan and Evita just six years to screw up Argentina forever with their brand of state socialism, by creating a permanent dependency-based `clase de descamisados’ who worship the Perons to this very day.
Argentine-style hyperinflation could become an Obama hallmark, just for starters.
Well I have some hope we can defeat Obama this time. However, I also feel like the floodgates for people like him are now officially ‘open’.
Do we need to stoop to that level to win the argument?
If so, maybe we dont deserve to win it...

I’m thoroughly pissed at my fellow FReepers for their wildly inhuman response toward Ted Kennedy’s recent medical emergency. Those who cannot afford to give well wishes do not deserve to recieve well wishes. Utterly and totally disgusting on our part.
Still wanna talk about stooping to their level?
I'm with you on that HB, and he isn't smart enough to even understand the obvious meaning of so many of his glib remarks. All he has going for him is the media's deafness to his missteps.
Hillary can’t win Oregon but if she (or her campaign) were smart then she would be giving a speech right on the Kentucky/Illinois border, pointing out LOUDLY to the country that Obambi does not even know the elementary fact that Kentucky is next to Illinois (his mega-gaffe the other day that no one is talking about). Why does that matter? Because he is the most ignorant, whiny, left-wing major party candidate we have ever seen, and all the atmospherics do not make up for the fact that he is an empty suit.
Hillary and her campaign could call attention to his fundamental weaknesses, but then I suppose they don’t like to talk too much about foolish gaffes.
John Kerry drew huge crowds in Portland. This is not surprising. Multnomah County is huge liberal dem.
so true — in the 1920s-40s Argentina enjoyed a standard of living well above most of the world outside of Europe (and even compared well with many European countries). It took the Peronistas only a few years to put the place on a dismal socialist path from which it has never recovered.
“This is one reason I shake in my boots....AMERICANS have been bamboozled by a TERRORIST LOVING MUSLIM!! There is no way McNUT can win against this evil man. WE ARE COOKED! The Obamessiah will be OUR next president. GOD HELP US! Never seeing anything like this only in text books during Hitler’s reign! “
It is frightening how many are not turned off by this most leftwing senator, pro-abortion extremist, soft-on-dictators-like-Carter, bad for taxpayers tax-hiker, soft on crime and criminals, gun-grabbing (pro DC gun ban), anti-energy, zero accomplishments nobody.
Obama will indeed be a very dangerous turn for this country.
For those who put up Hitler pictures, you certainly have the right to do it. But I personally don’t like a Hitlerian comparison. I wish we had a candidate who could draw those kinds of crowds.
I love that picture you posted on other threads. Keep it up.
Personally, if he was near our area I might go just to see whatsup!
“The difference between Hitler and our form of government is that our president doesn’t really wield that kind of power.”
True, but the Presidency, the media, and the Congress all in the hands of the most leftwing force ever will be a grave threat to the country as a whole. We need to wake up to the danger.
” Even if Obama Hussein gets elected, he still will have Congress and the people to deal with. Remember, among the dims in Congress, quite a few are conservative dims.”
basil, please, that is complete wishful thinking.
There are NO REAL conservative Democrats. There are a few fake-conservative Dims who are more worthless than our worst RINOs. The Democrats, if you recall the 1980s and up to the dark days of 1992-1993, played a game where they would rotate the ‘tough’ votes in the tough districts. They know how to KEEP POWER, that is #1 goal, while still moving America left.
Just like how gay marriage happens despite the citizens not wanting it, but the liberal Democrats arent ‘for it yet’ (wink wink nod nod, they’ll change their tune when the people are ‘ready’) ... they are just boiling our freedoms away and play with the knobs enough so we dont JUMP out of the pot!
All the Dems need is enough of a margin buffer and they can pass anything. They got 3 Obama-supporting fake conservative Dems into Congress in the recent special elections, and plenty of the ‘conservative’ running Democrats have proven to be in the tank for budget busting pork, welfare state expansion, cut-n-run from Iraq, tax increases (they did another tax increase out of the House last week), and of course saying no to drilling ANWR, saying yes to the UN, and doing *nothing* to move along border security.
Chet Edwards is an in-the-tank Liberal Democrat in DC who comes home to Texas and pretends to be a conservative good ol boy. Even in a Bush district we couldnt defeat him.
I fear for our future when we have such uninformed people electing such dangerously wrong leaders!
Hitler? Peron? LOL.
Here are the facts: That crowd is impressive. So is Obama. You Republicans need to figure out a way to beat him. And you aren't going to do that by denying his threat or making ludicrous comparisons.
In case the question comes up- I'm not American. Just an old FR junkie.
