McCain on the Issues - Border Security and Immigration Reform
McCain Website ^

Border Security & Immigration Reform

Immigration is one of those challenging issues that touch on many aspects of American life. I have always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure. If we have learned anything from the recent immigration debate, it is that Americans have little trust that their government will honor a pledge to do the things necessary to make the border secure.

As president, I will secure the border. I will restore the trust Americans should have in the basic competency of their government. A secure border is an essential element of our national security. Tight border security includes not just the entry and exit of people, but also the effective screening of cargo at our ports and other points of entry.

But a secure border will contribute to addressing our immigration problem most effectively if we also:

Recognize the importance of building strong allies in Mexico and Latin America who reject the siren call of authoritarians like Hugo Chavez, support freedom and democracy, and seek strong domestic economies with abundant economic opportunities for their citizens.

Recognize the importance of pro-growth policies -- keeping government spending in check, holding down taxes, and cutting unnecessary regulatory burdens -- so American businesses can hire and pay the best.

Recognize the importance of a flexible labor market to keep employers in business and our economy on top. It should provide skilled Americans and immigrants with opportunity. Our education system should ensure skills for our younger workers, and our retraining and assistance programs for displaced workers must be modernized so they can pursue those opportunities

Recognize the importance of assimilation of our immigrant population, which includes learning English, American history and civics, and respecting the values of a democratic society.

Recognize that America will always be that "shining city upon a hill," a beacon of hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life built on hard work and optimism. Border security and our failed immigration system are more examples of an ailing Washington culture in need of reform to regain the trust of Americans. In too many areas -- from immigration and pork barrel spending to Social Security, health care, energy security and tax relief -- business-as-usual politics prevents addressing the important challenges facing our nation.

I’m sure they’ll tell us more about the new “branding” that they envision.

They might as well just brand BOHICA on their foreheads.

You’re just a few minutes slow. The “branding” has made a major change:

And not but a few hours ago I said this was a historical propaganda week. What an understatement.

The asylum has no walls.

The asylum has no walls.

LOL.

Just wait until this week... Arnie and John.

Or the week after... McCain's medical records.
(nope... that weird swelling on his cheek is NOT from being beaten as a POW
--it was a malignant melanoma. And not the only)

Fred was brutalized for his "health" problems. Let's see how McCain fares/spins.

Yeah, Fred caught it but McCain didn’t. McCain is what, 72, and he’ll be a one termer, and a lame duck if ever there was one because he’ll only have the support of the straightjacket set.

So many Dims and dead crossed over* in the primaries for McCain. It’s the only explanation.

*the jokes write themselves this Election.

Is that the same as the Effexor/Prozac set? ;-)

Ain't that the truth!

You got that right-----and judging by their posts here, the McC team is frustrated b/c they bombed with the "message" they figured would gull an important voting bloc----conservatives.

They also planned on the usual to happen once mccain won, that is to tell conservatives to shut up and take RINOism for the team.

I agree 100%.

Also, many minor points exist that combine to make John Sidney McCain unacceptable. With the disruptive sleaze during the Clinton's administration, why have another president who is an adulterer and would bring the Other Woman into the White House as first lady? Maybe his feeble appearance makes people think he is beyond fooling around.

Ahhhh, you have no explanation as to how one can be a true conservative and still support McCain.

We're still waiting.

* crickets *

I swear I don’t think I know one “adult” person on FR who would even contemplate using the screen name Eric Cartman if only for the reason that NO ONE would take them seriously on any issue that required more intellectual capacity then whether Bud is better than Miller Lite.

Sorry, had to be said.

Oh dear, Bob J doesn't like me! Boo-hoo-hoo-hoo!

{/sarcasm off}

Thanks for the reply, indy.

I wear the scorn of arch-MacCainiac Bob J as a badge of high honor.

Sad thing about MacCain is that especially for conservatives the more you see of him the sicker you become. Time to dump the self-serving asshats of the GOP for a party that's still genuinely conservative. The country does not need two major left-wing/globalist parties.

You are most welcome FRiend. I don’t think Bob J is a bad person, he is just a republican who wants to win even if it means embracing the policies of the other side.

I don’t think he understands why most of us are thinking what we think. Irrelevant anyway, you can’t make people do what goes against their grain. McCain supporters are either voting for him out of fear, or they like what McCain stands for. One or the other.

No matter what, I am not going to be afraid of what comes this time around. I am just not going to buy into the notion that all will be well if we just suck it up and vote against our conscience.

If this election was so important, why would the GOP field a candidate that they knew would split the party? I guess losing is an option, or else the other side is so weak that you win by apathy.

They can threaten us that we will never be heard again. Too late, that has already transpired and they are just now facing the error of their ways.

If the Republicans are stupid enough to go after Michelle Obama then it’ll be open season on Cindy “Vicodin” McCain.

The nice fellows in the white coats allowed me to attend arts and crafts this morning. It's not much, but it'll have to do.

Damn-—I sure hope those liberal sonofaguns aren’t crass enough to bring up stuff about Cindy stealing money from her tax-exempt, getting presc/drugs in others’ names and (shock) getting arrested (snicker).

Insult him? I believe I am giving him some very solid advice on the selection of a risky screen name that could follow him around Free Republic like the constant drip, drip, drip of a venereal disease.

And "Bob J" shows brilliance and originality? But for your facile thinking, you're one forgettable dude. And on a good day "Bob J" bespeaks a man whose favorite meal is mayonnaise sandwiches on white bread washed down with a leftover Big Gulp...mmmmm.

I tell ya, FRiend. I am risky, Bob J should ping my hubby on that one! LOL

Ah, its alright, desperation changes people. Makes them dump on their buddies and sell out for a simple minded solution.

Since Bob called me out I have developed a tic in my right eye.

In politics, perception is everything. McCain better understand how he is being perceived due to his amnesty worship and his alliance with Hernadez.

With donations to his campaign dwindling and the cost of gas rising, it'd be cheaper for the MacCain campaign to hire a bunch of illegals to push The Bull5h!+ Express down the rode instead of buying gas.

The ex Rudy, nose picking dweebs at MAC campaign central have been picking their brains to figure out how to spin the fact that MAC is so reviled all the contributions to the RNCC have to go for MAC, instead of the candidates downstream. Poor folks, they are on their own this year because the POTUS candidate is bleeding them dry. Pretty sad when a guy has to send Bush out with a cup to keep things running. Hah Hah, how much worse can it get? No matter though, MAC only needs Democrats and he will get a slew of them. LOL

Too bad for mccain, he was hoping, no more like planning to see all those amnestied illegals voting for him since of course they would know he was their benefactor. Aw shucks, maybe next time.

FWIW I did just hear that mccain would be opposing Feinstein and Craig's last minute sneaky, stealth attack on the rule of law.
