Texas group sues to stop border fence

WASHINGTON, May 18 (UPI) -- The Texas Border Coalition, which includes a number of cities along the U.S.-Mexico border has filed a lawsuit against the border fence.

In court papers filed Friday in Washington, the group asked a court to block the construction of the fence in the Rio Grande Valley.

The coalition, which also includes business groups, charges that the Department of Homeland Security did not consult landowners in the area. DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff denied that in a news conference Friday.

Eagle Pass Mayor Chad Foster, who chairs the coalition, called the fence "an antiquated solution for a 21st century problem."

From the star telegram link, on april 27th, 2008, DHS officials say the project is on schedule but acknowledge the challenges. As of last week, only six task orders, valued at $91.6 million, had been awarded for 25 miles of fencing in Arizona and New Mexico.

Facing a deadline of Dec. 31, the Department of Homeland Security was over halfway to its goal as of Friday, with just under 300 miles awaiting construction. A companion element to the physical barriers -- a so-called virtual wall of radar, cameras and sensors -- faces uncertainty after developing technical problems in a test project.

And of course they are counting all prior fence, plus the invisible fence, that doesn't work, the 22 miles of two foot levee in Texas, as part of the completed work. Calling the three little pieces of steel, that could be cut with a fully charged saws-all, a fence are vehicle barrier is a joke.

You got it!

The Supreme Court already says that government can take private property under the eminent domain clause, even if it is to serve another private interest rather than the public interest. Why should there be any problem with using eminent domain when a crucial public interest is at stake? That is original intent of the law.

We don’t need a fence.

Texas showed us how to do it 170 years ago.

Form companies of Border Rangers. Pay them $15 an hour, except for captains, who get $20. Issue them water, rifles, sidearms, SUVs, and gasoline cards. Tell them to shoot to kill.

Stand back and watch border crossings drop to nothing.

The mayor (alcalde) of Mission, Texas is no stranger to appeasement and accepting and helping in anyway he can the illegality of illegal aliens entering this country...

If you raided the entire town the population would probably be reduced to a shadow of its former self...
