GWB may be “on to something” here, but the hapless American people have already tuned him out — three years ago!

Investors Business Daily agrees with President Bush. This editorial is a thrashing of Congress. IMO, the Congressional leadership that's signed-up for the Global Warming scam needs to be put behind bars.

heaped blame on congressional Democrats for skyrocketing gasoline prices

Not so. Heaped scorn on Dems for faulty logic. Nothing can be done about 'skyrocketing' prices. This could have been dealt with painlessly but it is too late and there are 25 years of pain ahead.

The American people with the help of the MSM and the RATS tuned Bush out the day he “waited 7 minutes” before leaving that classroom on 9/11.

True, that is why his brother pushed so hard for drilling off the coast of Florida. LOL

Bush hops on Air Force One to visit the King of the UAR to beg for more oil. The King basically tells Bush to get lost. So, except for a friendly visit in Israel on the way to the UAR, Bush did little more than burn off a lot of precious fuel. Then, after returning, Bush whines about the Democrats blocking the development of domestic oil resources, which is basically true. Bush, who during his present term is hated by a large majority of Americans, including those like myself that voted for him, fails to take the next logical step.
Even though 75% of Americans don’t take Bush seriously, the cost of gasoline is a bipartisan issue in the face of every American that owns a car or goes to the market. Democrats and Republicans alike pay $4/gal for gasoline, and almost a dollar more per gallon for diesel fuel, and we all pay more for food.
So, courtesy of the Democrats and RINO’s Bush now has an issue of concern to virtually every American, and nothing to loose if he rides in as a knight in shining armor with a solution. Instead of whining about the Democrats, Bush can and should take a viable proposal for drilling directly to the people to put pressure on a malfeasant Congress to do something. Conservation, and alternate energy are good things and should be pursued, but for now, oil moves our cars and trucks. Just a positive move toward real energy independence would likly bring down world oil prices. Bush needs a no holds barred attack on those that have created this mess, using facts, and naming names. If he angers the Democrats and sends them over the edge, then he will be doing the right thing. Perhaps Bush, in his legacy, can be remembered as the president that changed our 30 year non-energy policy to a real energy policy. He won’t accomplish this by playing nice with the Democrats. This will only happen if he has the balls to take them on in a down and dirty street fight, so to speak.

I think Americans and those who back Bush and the Republicans need to contemplate the following chart of US government debt.

The estimated cost of a nuclear power plant (with elevated commodities and dropping dollar) is $3B. $3T would have bought 1000 nuclear power plants and would give us true energy independence. Of course we could not build 1000 plants in 6 years, but based on previous patterns of construction we could be well on our way to another 100 at a mere 10% of that accumulated debt, all in.

George and the pubbies need to get out a mirror.

I think W is well positioned to put blame on Congress. He can do McCaine a service by attacking the Dems.

Unfortunately, free market capitalism should be on the endangered species list instead of polar bears.

The American people will be grasping at straws to bring down prices. They've already bought into what the Dims are offering so they know that doesn't work.
