Re: your post 78: I think the answer is term limits, in order to allow newly-elected officials to focus on getting something useful done before they are maxed out. The current system in congress lets people like Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd, John McCain, just keep going and going.

We have to treat election like it really is; an opportunity to throw the old bums out, and throw some new bums in.

I think you’re right in principle, Bernard.

But at this point we’re back to just needing to get our guys in, not even so much replacing the ones we have in who are too squishy, and I think term limits, especially just as a stated commitment, was counterproductive in filtering out the honorable guys who came into power in ‘94.
