Meg and Lori, I believe my bluebirds are gone. I am so troubled over it. Saw no activity all day yesterday until late in the evening....no birds. I pray I will see them today but don’t think so. I am very familiar with their activity. I had a feeling when I saw that hole look so different, that something was wrong. Their nest was finished a long time ago and they had 5 little eggs about 10 days ago.

Oh, jaycee, I am so sorry! I am also sorry I am so late in replying to this.

I know how responsible you feel for the little wild things when they are living near you. I feel the same way, but then I have to remember that there is little we can do when nature takes it's course and preditors are a reality that we can't control. It is very sad though. Those little bluebirds were innocents. :-(

Thank you, Lori...I didn’t even want to talk about it much that first or second day....I thought they might come back (just a little wishful thought). Late Sat. evening I saw a bird fly out of there with its mouth full of stuff...couldn’t tell what kind of bird it was. The next morning I stood at the door and watched through the blinds and by golly, it was a house wren. Carrying out and carrying in! If anyone can ever explain that to me, I will offer a reward~~LOL~~

I wondered if the cat may have gotten mama or papa and the other one abandoned the nest and the house wrens moved in quickly! I love house wrens but they are so plentiful around here and bluebirds aren’t! I was in Lowe’s tonight to get Roundup and birdseed and I was looking at new bluebird houses. I may get another house for the bluebirds even if they don’t come until next season. They usually raised two families a season! I will never know what happened and its not for me to know! Mother Nature takes her course I guess....just wish she wouldn’t have nosed in on the bluebirds......I’m kidding of course!
