Lie Back and Enjoy It
Malcolm A. Kline, May 16, 2008
If you think that the globe is not getting warmer, you could be closer to the inconvenient truth than most academic and media elites. Bruce Hall [2007] has reviewed climate data for the 50 US states; his chart of the number of record-high temperatures by year goes back to 1884, the Science and Environmental Policy Project reports. The chart shows 25 extreme high temperature records set in 1934 and 29 in 1936, but none in 2001, 2003, 2004, or 2005.
There is no evidence from U. S. records that extreme high temperatures are on the increase. The SEPP was founded by climatologist S. Fred Singer, the first director of the National Weather Service.
Even when temperatures have risen in world history, Dr. Singer and associates point out, man-made gases are probably not the reason. "The climate cooled from 1940-1975 while CO2 was rising rapidly," Dr. Singer and company note. "Moreover, there has been no warming trend apparent, especially in global data from satellites, since about 2001, despite a continuous rapid rise in CO2 emissions."
"The UK Met Office issued a 10-year forecast in August 2007 in which they predict further warming is unlikely before 2009." The UK Met Office is the British equivalent of our own weather service.
What happens is that the doomsday predictions are based on U.N. calculations of what the temperatures might become. The scientists affiliated with the SEPP compared these projections to actual temperatures.
"While all GH [Greenhouse] models show an increasing warming trend with altitude, peaking at around 10 km [kilometers] at roughly two times the surface value, the temperature data from balloons give the opposite result: no increasing warming but rather a slight cooling with altitude in the tropical zone," the SEPP reports.

It’s too bad the debate is over, else we’d all learn the truth.
No, you don’t get it! America causes the CO2 increase and the rest of the world suffers!
(Sorry, givin’ “them” ideas).
It always amuses me that people in countries like Canada and Sweden who would greatly benefit from global warming if it were happening are so against it.
Uh...Sorry!
CO2 is a LAGGING INDICATOR relative to temperature, NOT A PREDICTOR!!!!
I know...but I must be going...I need to be out getting my scuba gear for the immanent 10ft rise in sea levels?
I know that, but they don’t seem to know that (or deny it) and they would use this excuse...Look, I know how dumb they are, I’m just making up a dumb excuse they would use.
All these damn facts are getting in the way.
Bring in the celebrities, Stat!!!
True, and it's the thing that convinced me from the beginning that CO2 had nothing to do with warming trends.
It's an effectof warming, not a cause.
Not doubting you, but can you explain this? I thought CO2 held in heat.
Thanks!
Before directing you to charts and graphs the most important thing to know is that WATER VAPOR comprises over 90% of “greenhouse gases” and has so many variables that it has never been accurately modeled. (meaning that the most current models DO NOT accurately portray weather patterns in the PAST!!!
CO2 comprises only 3% of “greenhouse gases” and the manmade component is only 3% of that 3%.
So, you tell me, ‘how much is that 3% of 3% going to have to shift to make a measurable impact on global weather?
These yahoos would like you to believe that your tailpipe exhaust is forming impenatrable barriers around the globe, and we’re all going to cook in this manmade oven.

“Global warming” hoax BUMP!
I understand that man does not have an impact on our weather. I agree that we probably cannot do anything about it. However, there are some here at work that disagree with that, and I would like to be able to explain the CO2 effect.
I also understand that water vapor is much more abundant than CO2. You're preaching to the choir here. :) I was only after the physics of heat and CO2, as I don't fully understand that relationship.

“I thought CO2 held in heat.”
That is correct regarding co2 as a greenhouse gas. It is whether it actually contributes to global, or any other warming that is in doubt. Historically increases in co2 always followed warming trends, the is the increased co2 was a result of the warming, not the cause of it. For example:
Co2 Increases Follow Temp Increases

I think that is the answer you were looking for.
Hank
Thanks for the reply. That is what I was looking for.
The link I provide in that post demonstrates that over the last 400,000 years, spikes in average global temperatures are FOLLOWED by increases in CO2. Which means that CO2 is NOT “CAUSING” anything.
