I agree, the Bush admin. made a terrible mistake when they did not insist upon ostracizing Hamas and excluding them completely from any election or political process.
Sometimes Rs do falter, too often in fact. But the Demagogues are far more consistently proving to be appeasement weasels.
The whole Oslo process has been a disaster, anyway, and that is a Clintonista fiasco. There should have been the most stringent possible requirements and verification for any Arafat/PLO participation in Gaza and the West Bank. There should have been the most stringent requirements for renunciation of terrorism and incitement on every level.
Instead, the Clintonistas turned the territories over to the PLO, armed them, and allowed just about the worst outcome imaginable. The fiasco with Hamas has been an extension of the same kind of muddled liberal thinking.
But at least Bush and most Rs have times when they display more backbone, whereas weasels like Obama and Carter NEVER have any backbone.

Bush made some mistakes, from which we can recover.
Obama will get us killed.
