Discuss the issues all you want, but do NOT make it personal.

I wonder why you allow LeGrande to call me a bitter old hag, without the same warning?

Perhaps you should review post 98. The maybe you could tell me why that isn’t “personal.”

I certainly hope we are not getting one-sided moderation, and that it was an oversite on your part.

Thank You. I see that the offending remark was removed.

Now I am going to take a self-imposed exile from FR for a couple of days.

Thanks again.

I was asked to leave BYU because I wrote a paper on John Taylors excommunication

Do you know what Stockholm Syndrome is? ;-)

Yes I do, but I am confused. Are you referring to me or the other students left at BYU?

Being asked to leave for a paper? That sounds harsh. It sounds like you were mistreated.

First off, I apologize and secondarily I missed the change over to a religious thread.

I would also like to thank you Mods and Admins for doing a tough thankless job. Religion and Politics tend to make polite discussion, shall we say, difficult : )

“who do their best trying to say that MORMONISM is NOT the religion of Flds folks! “

Which, I think, they should realize is overkill, at this point.

Mormons do not worship Warren Jeffs as their GOD and PROPHET.

FLDS folks do.

It is only called a ‘religion’ because it involves a group of people being faithful to certain practices.

IN this case, some illegal practices.

The ‘religion’ is merely a ‘defensive shield’ much like the massive walls surrounding the TEMPLE at the YFZ Ranch.

The TEMPLE of Warren Jeffs. Worship Warren Jeffs. Give all to Warren Jeffs. You cannot wear or use the color RED in anything. Warren was arrested, heading for Vegas, in a Bright RED CADILLAC SUV.

Yeah, I’d listen to that guy.

Much ado was made about investigations into scandals with TV Evangelists, but there didn’t seem to be the same REACTION as far as the fact these were also ‘religions’.

No one objected to the LE and MEDIA invading the homes of two of the best, and very popular TV ministries, trying to ‘find’ evidence to prove they were guilty of ‘anything’.

Attacked, only Because they were popular and received donations, and had enough they could afford these things, and likely because they wouldn’t bribe local politicians.

Joyce Meyer is one of these, and considering the difference, possible misuse of funds, or child abuse,
I think the YFZ Ranch deserves no special protection.

No, not at all. It was merely the end result of a series of confrontations. I was a member of the Mormon Underground and being a conformist never appealed to me.

In retrospect and even at the time, I knew it was for the best. I was going to leave anyway and it probably only hastened my departure by a semester.

What is the Mormon Underground?

O.K. I’ll bite.

What is the Mormon Underground?

I hadn't offered it as bait, but here goes. There is a large subculture of Mormons who prefer to think for themselves and get their own answers. Just as Nephi didn't take his fathers word for a revelation, he went and got a more definitive and expanded version.

The Mormon underground were merely a group that gathered source materials to determine for ourselves what the unvarnished facts about the Church were, warts and all. We had access to the Churches archives and we used it. What we found was that yes the Church had tended to white wash its history, but it wasn't anything like what we had anticipated. Primarily it tended to show a lot more confusion and lack of direction, much more than what is read in the history books.

Historians tend to see cause and effect in history where there really is none. What the Mormon Church at first was seemed to be simply failed attempt after failed attempt. Joseph Smith had a vision, but it took someone like Brigham Young to make the path real.

The Mormon Church of today would be almost unrecognizable to Joseph Smith, just like this Nation would be unrecognizable to the Founding Fathers. Almost all were Mason's, by the way : )

That is the really, really condensed version. Just be aware that there is a very large core membership of the Church that is pragmatic and that does not blindly follow the old saying that when the Prophet speaks the debate is over.

So would JS recognize the FLDS? Or are they more like the time when BY reigned?

I don't know. They seem like a throwback to BY's time and they seem to be practicing a form of the Law of Consecration. My guess is that they are emulating BY the most, but my knowledge of their teachings and practices is almost nil. They are probably about as similar as the Baptists and the Shakers.

The only comparison that I have is that I listened to tape once by Lafavre and I literally almost couldn't understand the points that he was making and he was quoting the BOM. It is very similar to the different understandings different protestant groups give to the same scripture. They quote a scripture, but their point of view is so different that they almost have no common ground. Each side thinks that their point is obvious and the other side has no clue.

[Well, it doesn’t seem to be much of a cabal anyway, r9etb. I mean, they never gave me the magic decoder ring, no beanie, and I have no idea where all the secret meetings are held, if they’re held at all. I mean, what’s a cabal, without secret meetings??? ;) ]

Wait till we get you to dance nekid ‘neath a full moon, that’s when you get your beanie and decoder ring.
