Man survives head first leap into wood chipper(MN)

Police say a man was severely injured when he threw himself into a wood chipper Thursday in Roseville.

Crews were clearing trees in a public area this afternoon when the man appeared and jumped head first into the wood chipper. Workers turned off the machine and called 911, and the man was rushed to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries to his head and torso.

Police are calling it a suicide attempt and say the man is between 19- to 21-years-old.

I think this sounds more like a “hold my meth and watch this” than a hold my beer moment. I’ve been seeing more and more bizarre stories in the news that just have to be meth related.

Careful now... I have been subtly reminded that we all ought to have some sensitivity to the fact that a young person tried to commit suicide here, and that's an awful thing. Making jokes about terrible things like this is often a way of dealing with it, and I'm as guilty as anyone in that respect. So, if anyone out there was offended, mea culpa, I'm sorry, but sometimes I just need to escape from the daily grind.
