Bob Barr Enters the Race
Townhall.com ^ | May 15, 2008 | William Rusher

Former Republican congressman Robert Barr of Georgia recently announced he is running for president as a Libertarian. This is a formidable development, and it's by no means out of the question that Barr could attract enough otherwise conservative voters to defeat John McCain and put Barack Obama in the White House.

Of course, Obama has his own problems with possible rivals on the left side of the political spectrum. That hardy perennial Ralph Nader has already made it clear that he intends to run, and while he may be old news, even a poor showing by Nader on Election Day might be enough to tip the scales to McCain in a close-fought election. But Barr is much the fresher face, and it is only prudent to assume that he would attract more votes than Nader.

Now Barr, who I respect, will suck votes from McCain...

If Barr wins the Libertarian nomination, which, given who he is would surprise me, I would reckon that he'll siphon more votes from the Dims by virtue of capturing the Paulista voters, most of whom I believe are closet lefties, as evidenced by their tactics. Barr is running around saying that we are an "occupying force" in Iraq. This is going to appeal to the Paulistas who would probably otherwise vote for Obama. With that said, McCain is doing a very fine job of chasing Conservatives away without any help from Bob Barr......

Yo, everybody!
McNutt will not get the turnout. He will lose. Period.
2008 is a done deal.
The real question is, WHAT NOW?
RINOs have gored the GOP to death from the inside—so now we have to start over.

“So a POX on Barr and his grandstanding.”

What? A pox on a guy for having conservative(98 ACU rating) principles that he is not willing to compromise for the RINOs who have taken control of the GOP? Maybe a POX on the GOP for abandoning us.

At least we now have a true conservative to vote for.

Barr? Conservative? You do know he's an ACLU member, right? You know, the folks who represented NAMBLA?

Bob Barr supports the war on drugs and the Iraq War - he’s not a libertarian. I am doing a write in vote for Ron Paul.

Barr.

Closed borders. Pro-life. Pro-RKBA. Smaller government. Anti-Nanny State. Lifetime ACU rating of 98.

The more I read about Barr, the more I like him.

The real question is, WHAT NOW?

Focus on electing real Conservatives to Congress, State and local offices and stick your finger in the eye of anybody who resembles a Socialist. Probably would be a good idea to batten down the hatches and hang onto your wallet, too, because it's going to be a bumpy ride for at least the next 4 years.......

Maybe if the GOP leadership hadn't allowed another Bob Dole to head the ticket, you wouldn't be in this position.

Scratch that, McCain doesn't have the charm, charisma, grace, or wit of "Brady Bill" Bob Dole.

Principles my ass. The ONLY principle anyone should have in this war against the democrats at this time is the principle of keeping the fate of the constitution out of the hands of the democrat party. I despise McCain but he is preferable to any democrat. The democrat party IS the primary threat to our constitution because they are and always have been working against the constitution from within. Just because they are Americans does not mean they should be given free reign to destroy us.

Talk to some of his former constituents from Georgia. I think you'll change your mind.....

“)My money is on what the GOP’s money is on, that being conservatives will turnout to vote FOR McLame to ensure the RATS don’t win.”

You’re going to lose your money. It makes me physically ill to think about casting a vote for John McCain let alone actually doing it and I have never not voted for a Republican candidate. Every day McCain flaps his jaws embracing another socialist policy just makes it that much worse. It’s almost like he’s intentionally trying to lose. Maybe he is.

Even better, I looked up his voting record and stances on the issues.

He's more conservative than McCain has EVER been.

We giggle when Ralph Nader and Dennis Kucinich peel off votes from the left flank of the Democrats. We encourage Cindy Sheehan to bedevil the flank of Nancy Pelosi.

And this proves we have an equal number of stupid/brainless wonders on our side too.

Newsflash, McCain IS a Democrat. Why aren’t people listening. The guy is not a Republican. He is not conservative and he may not even be sane.

I despise McCain but he is preferable to any democrat.

If he shares so many points of commonality with the Democrats, you are quibbling over one little Letter behind his name while ignoring all the things that make that Letter so vile.

How about voting for someone you actually share opinions with? Is that so damn hard?

“Now Barr, who I respect”

There was a time that I respected Barr too. However, the guy has become somewhat strange in thinking it seems to me. I don't know exactly what caused it but it became noticeable after he left congress. I think he may have an ax to grind with some of the Republican leadership. Anyway, he seems to be somewhat of the Pat Buchanan school now...

He's more conservative than McCain has EVER been.

And not a prayer of ever being selected to be POTUS.

Barr is an angry little man with a chip on his shoulder as big as Kansas. There is a very good reason why he lost his seat to John Linder. Keep digging and you'll find it.
