That quote that you cited from the 14th amendment applied to the babies born in the U.S. not the parents. By being born in the U.S. they are subject to our jurisdiction. If you want to change the status of future anchor babies, you're going to have to amend the constitution. That's the way that the majority of law scholars see it also, not just me. The 14th is pretty plain language actually.

The issue of USSC appointments is the only reason I’m holding my nose and voting GOP this year. While President Bush has been a disappintment to conservatives, there’s little doubt that Kerry would not have nominated Roberts and Alito to serve on the USSC.

From the XIV:All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.

As Mexican citizens (for instance) -not subject to our jurisdiction, any babies they have here are the children of Mexican nationals and subject to the laws of Mexico. That's how I read it. "and" is the working word.

Stevens is about 87 years old I think and you know he's just holding on until a Democrat gets elected. Buzzy Ginsburgh is 75 and in poor health supposedly. Maybe Buzzy holds out, but it's unlikely that Stevens can hold on for 4 more years. That means the next President is going to appoint a justice and most likely two.
