HOBBS -- Sen. Pete Domenici will be featured speaker at a national energy policy conference May 27 at the Lea County Event Center titled "The Making of Energy Policy: Where Are We Going?"
The conference is sponsored by New Mexico Tech, the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County, and the New Mexico Center for Energy Policy. Co-sponsors are the United States Chamber of Commerce and the American Petroleum Institute.
NMCEP, operated by New Mexico Tech, is organizing the conference, the group said in a news release.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed at 11:30 a.m. by a welcome and opening remarks by state Sen. Carroll Leavell of Hobbs.
Dr. Daniel Fine of the New Mexico Center for Energy Policy then will speak on "Energy Security: Before and After."
Anton Dammer of the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington will follow with a special briefing on "Energy Security and American Strategic Unconventional Fuels."
Lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Dr. Van Romero, vice president for research and economic development at New Mexico Tech, told the Hobbs News-Sun in an interview that the conference is a major step in bringing renewable energy to the forefront of policy discussions.
Romero said New Mexico law requires major utilities to produce 15 percent of their power from renewable resources by 2015 and 20 percent by 2020, the News-Sun reported.
Still, Romero told the newspaper, the country hasn't really looked at how policies need to change in the renewable energy environment. In the afternoon, papers will be presented, followed by commentary, a conference summary, and panel recommendations. Other presenters include: John Felmy, chief economist for the American Petroleum Institute. Bob Gallagher, president of the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association. David J. Modeen, director of external affairs, Nuclear Power Sector of the Electric Power Research Institute. Brenda Brooks, communications director for the National Enrichment Facility at Eunice. William Kovacs, vice president of the United States Chamber of Commerce. Robert Caudle of the New Mexico Center for Energy Policy. At the conclusion of the cornerstone presentations, Romero will summarize the conference and present community panel recommendations.
Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Featured speaker will be Sen. Domenici, who will be presented with the first National Energy Policy Leadership Award by Romero.
NMCEP is a partnership with New Mexico Tech, New Mexico Junior College, the Economic Development Corporation of Lea County and the State of New Mexico. The Center provides energyrelated research services, technical assistance, and educational opportunities for business, government, communities and individuals.

The GOP has already screwed the pooch so they can have all the “Energy Policy Conferences” they want but it won’t make a difference.
Assuming it’s not a rhetorical question, the answer is ‘down the f’n tubes’ w/socialists in charge...
95% of the votes to kill Energy Policy in the country came from the Democrats. Past time people start holding the majority accountable for the Majority’s actions rather then spending all their energy on RINO traitors.
I hope someone at this conference will be bold enough
to state the truth: “Oil is the most efficient source
of energy at htis time!”
