Hey there, TS!
I have been fascinated now with “Wicked”. While the Home Detachment was in London, it was ALL the rage and chatter on the BBC, how the West End performances were breaking records.
And yeah, we watch “Wizard” at home, too!

This is cool! I don’t follow these repeating threads but I seen that it had to do with the Wizard of Oz, and I had to click on it. I have probably seen the Wizrad of Oz at least 50 times. Currently, my grandkids are wearing it out every time they come over.

I heard an interesting story about the movie concerning the wizard. This was told to a group of us by a well known actor/writer in Hollywood. According to him the director had the costume department design the costume for the wizard. One of the items they decided on was the long frock coat the wizard was to wear. However the department did not have one on hand so they sent a couple of people out to search through the local used clothing shops to find one. They did find one and brought it back to the studio. When they started fitting it to the gentleman who was to play the wizard, he felt something in the inside pocket of the coat. Reaching in he found the ORIGINAL hand written manuscript of the story as written by Frank Baum. They contacted Frank's widow and discovered that she had indeed packed up most of Frank's clothes, including this coat, and donated it to the thrift shop.
Talk about a real spooky thing.

I love it!!! Cool thread, Sarge. My Mom has a first edition.

Hey, Caver!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the thread. All of Baum’s works have been a staple of the family library, and now to see it in screen and stage, it’s heart-warming!

"The Wizard of Oz" also holds the distinction of being the only book that I've ever read on a PDA. (It was on the software disk that came with it.)
I still prefer regular paper books, but it was fun to read. I didn't read it as a kid.

Fossil, there are SO MANY stories around about little things that happened on the Oz set! THAT one is amazing!
Did you know that, even though Buddy Ebsen did not portray the Tin Man in the final movie, they kept all his recorded music tracks, and used them anyway? If you listen to the ensemble singing “We’re off To See The Wizard”, that’s Ebsen’s voice!
