"Thus, the panel determined that we cannot claim "absolute ownership" over plants and, moreover, that "individual plants have an inherent worth." This means that "we may not use them just as we please, even if the plant community is not in danger, or if our actions do not endanger the species, or if we are not acting arbitrarily."

Unborn babies can be killed on a whim, but we have to really think twice before killing a plant. I'm horrified!

Left unsaid at this point is how we can continue to assist in the destruction of the AIDS virus worldwide. As a living, mutating organism, it too must have some inherent value - as must all pathogens.

This isn’t all bad. At least I can use it against vegetarians when they cry about my steak.

We are living in the post-rational world where being a moron is an asset.

This article supports my theory that there are people too stupid in the world to survive.

That makes me a mass murderer in the eyes of the dandelion police! I’d better burn the evidence!

In fairness to Switzerland, I'm pretty sure abortion is illegal there except in the case of a medical emergency. Mothers who get abortions illegally can go to jail there. So, that's pretty bizarre about the plants, but at least they are still protecting babies more than plants.

Right, don't want to eat those carrots. Let's see, we can't eat meat, it will impugn the rights of animals and we can't eat plants, so I guess we just starve and the world goes on. Right, I got it, but don't expect me to live by it.

Come get me socialist, environmentalist jerks, I will be waiting for you!

Yet another tool has been forged against individual liberty and freedom. The swiss have decided that you don't actually own your plants, so therefore you are not free to do whatever you want with your property. You call it "weeding," they'll call it a massacre. It's also useful as a tool to further the voluntary extinction movement. It's already considered "immoral" by lefty loonies to eat meat (damn those carnivores, they're so evil), but now they have a "scientific consensus" that can be directly extrapolated to mean that it's immoral to eat any kind of fauna (damn those vegitarians, they're so evil). Therefore, it's immoral for humans to eat anything and we should kill our species to prevent it from eating. The self-hating lunacy of the libs knows no bounds.

I think it was the Swiss who started the whole “Spanking is Child abuse” BS. Now it’s everywhere. Plants rights may follow.

....folks I used to scoff at this kind of nonsense...now I stop and read it...I had a little moment of clarity when my attorney daughter told me that the fastest growing area of law taught in law schools is:...are you ready for this?...Animal Rights Law!!....I don’t have to tell Freepers where this is heading....if PETA and others have their way we’ll never eat another steak....so it comes as no surprise that “plant rights” are in the on-deck circle.
