The GOP is broken.

You got that right. There’s nothing we can do about the disaster that will fall on our nation for the next four years. It’s too late.

But it is not too late to start a Conservative Party and create a Party platform of true ideas for reform. Let’s get started.

1. Government expenditures shall not exceed revenues except in time when Congress has declared a state of war with a foreign power.

2. Term limits

3. No candidates who have not spent at least 10 years in the private sector (should apply to university tenured profs, too);

4. Restrict jurisdiction of courts to hear whacko cases and limits on attorneys fees

5. Free trade agreements, but ones that mirror the trade policies of other nations.

6. Secure and militarize the southern border.

7. Energy independence through nuclear power and coal hydrogenation/liquification.

We need YOUNG Congressional candidates in districts we can win on ideas. Give up on the top of the ticket. Give up on the big cities. Go for the suburbs and flyover country. Get a viable Party with representatives on Congress. And, groom the successors. We have to live what we preach.

Any other ideas?

If elected members of government are term-limited without doing the same for the unelected bureaucracy, the bureaucrats will end up running the government. We have seen this already in the way the State Department and CIA have been running their own agendas in opposition to the direction set by Bush. For example, a carefully-timed NIE thwarted the momentum to put real pressure on Iran to stop development of nuclear weapons.

Term limits are, on balance, not useful at deterring the liberal legislative agenda.

However, one important (but long term) issue is ignored: freeing children from liberal-dominated, government-run (factory) schools. Homeschoolers are largely conservative for good reason. Vouchers would allow parents to send their children to private schools of their choice, and such schools would not all be dominated by liberals.

The best way to deter liberals in the legislature is by having more conservative voters!
