There are thousands of groups, Christian and others, doing good work for children in the third world. Ingraham could have adopted one of these groups to contribute to and support with publicity. She wanted a child but didn’t want the hastle of a husband. At heart this is an act of selfishness, not charity.

That is an absolutely unjust thing to say. Laura was in love and engaged to be married several years ago. When she discovered she had breast cancer, her husband-to-be dumped her. Now she is recovered, but she's also 44 and is too old to find a husband and have a biological child before menopause. So she has decided to give a loving home to a child who would otherwise go through life without it.

If she talks about her daughter incessantly, that's because mothers tend to do that when they're full of love, joy, and excitement. Is it really your contention that it would be morally preferable for Laura to let a lonely child to grow up alone and unloved?
