That depends on the definition of "socialist". If you define it, as it is usually done, in economic terms, they were neither left nor right. The Nazis' purely economic policies were more or less centrist, maybe with a slight slant towards the left. Trying to fit the Nazis on one-dimensional left-right-scale is inevitably doomed to fail. The point about the Nazis is that they were other things: racist, volkist, totalitarian, militarist, nationalist etc..

Which doesn't make Chavez less wrong. Ironically, on the political compass he himself would probably find his place right between Hitler and Stalin.

Something must be wrong with either me or PoliticalCompass.org. I’m neither Ghandi nor the Dalai Lama as politicalcompass.org says i am. I always thought to be part of the libertarian right.

Does this mean i have to leave freerepulblic.com ? :-)
