Over 200 buried under collapsed schools

TWO schools collapsed in quake-hit Sichuan Province, burying at least 200 people, Xinhua news agency reported today.
One high school and one vocational school in Hanwang Town, Mianzhu City, which is 30 kilometers away from the temblor’s epicenter in Wenchuan, collapsed in the 7.8-magnitude earthquake yesterday.
It was estimated that more than 200 among a total of 1,000 students were buried at the high school. About 30 students were trapped under debris at the vocational school.
Hanwang Town has been nearly wiped out, the report said, citing a reporter at the scene.
By early this morning, 800 soldiers had arrived and began rescue work.
Medical and rescue team members are now clearing the scene and searching for survivors.
A dozen corpses were seen placed on the playground of an elementary school, Xinhua reported.
A grade 12 student that survived the earthquake said his class was divided into two groups and that one group on the fourth floor was buried.
