Welcome to FReeRepublic. It’s unusual to have so many from China register in just a couple days. And I see there are many more who registered but haven’t been on this thread. You sure got some attention.

I think you’ll find many here praying for all the victims of the earthquake. And I do mean pray in the religious sense. This is a conservative site, with Christian values. I hope that won’t be a problem for you. I’ve seen the claims that there is no religious or political persecution in China, but I don’t believe that. Please be careful.

thanks for reminding. It is better these years for the chinese people to express their opinion on line, but there’d still been some ignorable controls for normal topics. and I don’t see much religious controls as most chinese believe in nothing...and personally me too, but I had lived abroad for one year in south Korea , I do HATE the JHVH witnesses there as they annoyed me and tens of “drop by’s”

Why I am here is because of your kind words and well-meaning bless. if all of Americans act like this, we will appreciated it very much.

People in the other district are spontaneously donating money and materials to those suffer, for example, there have been already over 500,000,000 RMB donated by various enterprises in China. Although I am still a poor student, I also donated 200 RMB to the disaster area, which I hope could help a little.

About religious matters, one must noticed that there is a sharp disparity between China and the western. China is the only nation in this world that in her history of over 5000 years there have never been an estate of clergyman. In its long history of feudalism China was always ruled by a emperor, the influence of religion has been very limited, which is the same even in today. It is true that we have little religious belief, yet we believe in the common humanity based on which our nation can evolve and prosper.
BTW, as for the matters in Tibet, you can refer to a lot of facts that there is no persecution on the belief of Lama. If you have ever been in Tibet, you will find that people there is quite happier than before, and they are free to believe in any religions.

As for political persecutions, I am sorry that I have little idea of it. But I have also read a lot of papers relating to this matters, which makes me to believe that government at itself have its own drawbacks, that granting power to several persons will eventually makes unfairness. But as I observed, China government is learning and improving. Believe that we are try to make it better, OK? We really hope that the pain of 89 Tian’anmen square and 66~76 culture revolution will never rehappen. We are trying, please believe in us.

Thanks for your welcome, I found my name was listed :)

Regarding the religion you mentioned, one of my cousins has a Catholic family and there are several Catholic villages around me in Shanghai’s suburb. We will celebrate the 400th anniversary of Catholic in China on May24 at Sheshan Catholic Church, the Largest Church in the Far East. The pope named this Church as the Holy Palace in 1942. Hopefully we will have some 300 thousand Catholics here from all around the world on that day.

there’s a rumor saying that because of the leak of chemical. the water here is not safe anymore. people panic, they bought all pure water and spring water up. more than that, the bottle sodas are almost bought out. i went 2 supermarks, bought nothing. finally i bought 12 bottles of green tee, and some medicine, oranges.
gov says that rumor are false, but i think preparing is better than doing nothing.

dear friend,I think you needn’t worry about us.

perhaps you want to know why so many chinese come to here, let me tell you the reason:

in china we have a very famous forum www.tianclub.com,in that place one post show us many american show they regrets and pray for chinese victims in www.freerepublic.com ,and then we start to know this forum,so we want say thanks to you and share more info to ameican friends.

Now chinese people suffered from the earthquake, but we won’t ignore the charity from USA,your noble virtus are highly appreciated.

Today,China allow all of the legal religions,Islamic,Christain,Buddhism wide spread in China,I guess you could update some new info in China. But I totally understand what you worried about, because 30 years ago China goverment forbiden all of the religions.

In fact, many chinese virtues are similiar to Christain codes,we share the same world, suffered the same pain.Hoping we will have a big future together
