An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.
Blitzer & Rangel on now?
I'm actually interested in what the Chinese have to tell us about the earthquake and you want to drive them off. An earthquake is apolitical until Bush & Clinton & Bono get involved, so cut it out, will ya?
No I won't. We have peope in a country in the middle of a disaster sending information to this forum (and perhaps looking for information themselves) and jerks on here trying to give them grief and push them away.
And if there is one thing that FR does best, it is breaking news gathered from people on the scene. Tell me how we do that when people here act as if they do not want to hear from them.
I will say it more nicely for you though. Please be smart.
OH,my GOD,I cann’t understand what are you talking about, can you translate the meaning into chinese?(my english so poor, thank you)
yes... coming up after this.
Exactly and well said. Lazamataz, save it for another day.
this snippet just in...
10,000 dead in one province alone
May 13, 2008 08:02am
CHINA says an earthquake centred in the southwest province of Sichuan has killed nearly 10,000 in that province alone.
The Xinua report came as Premier Wen Jiabao warned that rescuers faced huge obstacles reaching the area worst-hit by the quake that struck last night (AEST).
Forget the jerks on here. Don’t get caught up in their childish behavior. Uneducated people often act like that. Unfortunately they sometimes are also led to take up arms which makes they useful idiots as well.
The Chinese government has repeatedly taken friendly overtures from us as a sign of weakness and an opportunity to steal our technology to use against us. You may not be used to hearing things critical of your government, but the fact is they have repeatedly lied to us and that tends to make relations difficult with the Chinese people for some.
Feeling important, are ya? sheesh.
Death Toll From China Quake Could Reach 50,000, CU Expert Says
May 12, 2008
Geological Science — Roger Bilham, professor of geological sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder, believes the death toll in China from the earthquake that struck the Chengdu Plains region could reach as high as 50,000.
Bilham has done research in the Chengdu area and is an expert on geodesy, earthquake prediction, crustal deformation, plate tectonics and the impacts of urban growth on earthquake fatalities. He has worked extensively in the Himalaya region for the past several decades. Bilham said a thrust fault on the eastern edge of Tibet that caused the 7.8 magnitude event in central China today “pushed out” over the Chengdu Plains, home to about 3 million people.

Wow. Prayers for all.
Please don’t pay attention to some of the posters here. I speak English and have no idea what sort of posting game they’re playing.
Just know that many FReepers are skeptical of new posters and wonder, myself included sometimes, of a new person’s motivations.
Welcome.
Lol! So how many seconds did Wolf cover? Really disgraceful.
This quake rocked for 3 minutes.
warning: picture of badly injured man being pulled from the collapsed school.
