An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

We can visit BBC,CNN,AOL and MSNBC,but can’t visit VOA.
We can visit wikipedia (except Chinese version) and Youtube,but if we search keywords like ‘1989’,’Tiananmen’, the website will be temporarily forbidden for several minutes,reporting ‘DNS Error’.
Yes, that’s the problem. And yes, it is disgusting to mix religion with politics.
But anyway, praying is absolutely legal....
Christianity is legal in China only if the church is patriotism, and under the control of Department of Religion censorship. That means the Bishop must be appointed by The Cummunist Party.But there are many family churches or underground churches in China. The people who attend such churches face the risk of jail. No doubt, the church leaders are criminals under the China’s law.

That’s a good attitude. You guys are certainly smart if you recognize what your government is doing and figure out ways around it. Really though, most don’t think the Chinese are stupid. Only the ignorant think such things. :)

Hi. First of all, thanks for opening this thread and thank you all who are concerned about my people. As you’ve probably noticed from my ID, I am a Chinese. Secondly, I could answer your question why we Chinese are running into this forum to discuss this matter with you guys at this moment. Well, as for me, I was looking for some information about this quake and found your post in the biggest forum in China. After reading this, I decided to register and reply, and that’s it. (strangely, I posted this once, but kind of lost it)

i guess several Chinese have newly registered here,including me. because we have a thread in a major Chinese website mentioned this site. that thread is to appreciate the guys here for your concerns and prayer thousands miles away. we appreciate your kindness, unselfishness,and integrity, and rightousness. some webviewer got curious, then joined here, i guess. because not so often a foreign political site is discussed in China
as for the censorship by Chinese government, sure there are several sites we can not visit, for the reason we don’t know, for example, we could not visit wikipedia (strange?) for a while, but not now , but we sure can visit most of the site in USA, just a little slow..
but most people can not efficiently communicate in English, that IS major impede to access. i guess.
things about Chinese political are not so worse as you thought, but indeed not free as you are.(maybe? i don’t know if there is censorship by the administrator on this web. e.g. how about i appraise communism here? i am not a communist of course)
we are very worried and concerned right now about the damage in this disaster, but I can not watch TV right now.(not for political or economical reason. just inconvienent), so i am browsing the web to find something to digest.

You certainly have my prayers. I offer prayers especially for all the men, women, and children who are trapped in collapsed buildings.
I live in Maine, a state in the northeastern part of the United States. I lived for many years in California, so I am well aware of the threat posed by earthquakes.
While it’s true that Los Angeles and San Francisco have stricter building codes than most Chinese cities, if a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck either Los Angeles or San Francisco tomorrow, it would be a disaster of massive proportions.
Again, my sympathies to all of the innocent Chinese people killed and injured in this terrible earthquake.
Another thing I can share with you : most of the Chinese people support the government’s actions on Taiwan,Tibet and Xinjiang,and think of Falungong as liars.This has nothing to with ‘brainwashing’.Tibet will always be a part of China,even after China becomes more democratic.
TO me. it is exactly the brainwash part.The other voices are supressed, the dalai lama was described as terrorist. How can you imagine people support dalai lama if they thought dalai lama is going to suicide-bomb them?
