An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).
Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

My son waked up and is beside me, he is too young to understand where his groups of young mates went
Tears in heaven
Alot of us here in the United States felt that way when the Twin Towers were attacked and so many died.
People around the world reached out with their condolences and it was very heart warming.
I saw it in the biggiest news site in china and hope it will help you know more about recent news.
My husband and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy and concern for those who are suffering from this terrible earthquake in China.
The human suffering and misery is deeply painful to all who have heard of it or seen it. We hope the Chinese government is letting the peoples of the world help them to help their people by accepting aid from our governments and our charities.
I am so glad to see the Japanese are there and trying to help.
Recently I read a conjecture that Japan was settled by survivors of a Chinese fleet that had been hit by a typhoon during the time of Emperor Qin.
Probably the Japanese don’t like to think about that, but it only goes to show my belief that all of us in the world are related to each other.

You express perfectly my own thoughts on this catastrophe.
You are more eloquent than you think.
Thanks for posting.

The Chinese fleet survivor story is mostly a story. and help or sorrow or prayers have no nationality, That is what made us human being
I agree.
But sometimes it is interesting to read about ancient history and fun to think about possible things that might have happened.
So much news is tragic and painful that it is good to balance it with interesting and fun and beautiful things.
These pictures are just a few out of so many. The human suffering is hard to comprehend.
Thanks for posting that pic Dav. I read the story of that pond drying up. Crazy.
That’s amazing. This world is a dangerous place to live!
This is from a news report by Audra Ang at www.drudgereport.com
“A Japanese rescue crew arrived early Friday - the first international relief workers in the disaster zone. China initially was reluctant to accept foreign offers of help, but the Foreign Ministry said early Friday that specialist teams from Russia, South Korea and Singapore also were welcome.
“It was the first time ever that China accepted outside professionals for domestic disaster relief, Foreign Ministry counselor Li Wenliang told Xinhua.
“Singapore’s Foreign Ministry said a 55-member team would arrive in Sichuan later Friday. Taiwan’s Red Cross also has said China agreed to accept a 20-person emergency relief team from the island. Taiwan is sending a cargo plane to Chengdu with tents and medical supplies.”
We’re sorry that so far the Chinese government is not accepting offers of aid from other nations, but we are glad that some aid is being accepted.
