An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has hit China's Sichuan province. The tremor was felt across the entire region - shaking buildings in the capital, Beijing, as well as the Thai capital, Bangkok, and Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. US Geological Survey said the quake struck 57 miles north-west of the city of Chengdu at 2.29pm local time (6.28am GMT).

Some 10 million people live in Chengdu.

I came from Beijing and now an US citizen for about 20 years.

Knowing both country well enough to be so sad that so many things are not as it truly is...

Americans are very nice people, I love this country and people here. But keep in mind, last 50 years, Chinese government tried its best to brain wash Chinese people to hate Americans.

In China, all internet content are filtered (thanks to Goolge, Yahoo, MSN and Cosco, their greedy have helped the Chinese government tremendously).

Most of Chinese's perception is that Americans are evil and they hate Chinese so much.

Sad.

About kids killed in this earthquake. Why?

anyone in China knows the government is so corrupted, that they use money to build luxury office but 70% of Chinese families could hardly afford their kids to get proper education. The school was built with the miniume fund and it is not hard to realize where the money went.

This is why almost all school collapsed during this disaster, but you don't see many government buildings damaged.

Also many many resident buildings collapsed, only because it is in the afternoon, a lot of people lost their home but they were at work or on street.

God help we know almost nothing about China. Even Chinese in mainland are so brain washed, reading their forum make you feel so sad...

If you are a mainland Chinese you won’t have no idea of such a fact that yesterday over 150 paratroopers landed on the center of this district to save people, at the same thousands of docters and masses of materials and plenty of money were sent to the edge of the suffering area by the government and the other people spontaneously. And, also, in order to ensue the supply of blood, all the people of this country are denoating blood, such as in my campus, tomorrow there will be a one and I am also going to donate 400cc. The government also help to maintain the stabilization of the consumption index, up to now there is not sign of increase in price on daily articles in the surrounding district of the disaster area. Our premier arrived at that area in just two hnours after the quake to command the rescue.
You call this “do nothing”?
the organization of Olympic have told that to mourn for the dead before the relay and keep it simple. And celebrations? if you have noticed, if there are still that amount of TVs is broadcasting torch relay? quite small now.
This is our attitude towards lives. because above all, life is the first. Mourn for the sufferings.

First I am sorry about yr situation. At least u’ve got a child(u r more luckier than me!I’ve been single for 27 years). I am one of some people it is more recent as u say.I hate war ,I understand ur father’s feeling.Korean War was not the fault we made.I mean to we(Chinese, especially plebeian, include the soldier ) have no right to decide to join War. It’s decided by our leader,we have no choice.we are victims too!I am so sorry to maintain a awful North Korean.

Second, our cheap product make many of U lose work.I think so,and our workers only get so low pay(less than $200 a month),so many of them work for 12 hours everyday without vacation. Some work in big enterprise(like Nike OEM factory) will get much more better wrok enviroment and pay. By the way ,we produce so many cheap products ,because we have got 130000000 mouth to eat.why do we get such many people, thanks to Korean War ,Our leader considered that fight for a long time,so need more people(war machine?).But no one knowed war ended soon.
Well,I am not good at English,i hope u can understand ,and maybe misunderstand ,i am going to write code.
At last , let’s get more concern of people suffered by earthquake.

That’ really worst earthquake since 1976. Although, we have fight at North Korea, we have different society system. Facing death, we are all normal person. At that time this is a tragedy which needs our concern.

That is so sad. Multiply by hundreds; or even thousands. So tragic.

I feel like crying, seeing that one child wrapped in a bunny blanket.

If they can no longer control its flow and there are heavy rains the water could well be rising behind a very damaged structure that can’t take it.

Why does it seem that it always rains after these disasters?

It is obvious to us Americans that the schools were built cheaply and that they are not earthquake safe.

The photos we have been viewing prove this. Many of us have noticed the very thin rebar in the concrete rubble that was used on these schools.

We know that the common Chinese man is not to be blame for this.

As you know most American’s respect the Chinese. Every Chinese person I know that has come to America have been very hard working individuals. They are very respectful and gentle people and I myself have never met a Chinese that I did not like.

Most Chinese are very shy after they come to America.
We have a new Chinese family in my small country town and they are very shy, maybe because the language barrier or maybe because they were taught that most American’s are evil and that we American’s don’t like them.
