Within just the last few weeks, there was a female MSM journalist [as I recall, she may have been covering the Obama campaign] who said something to the effect that Obama & William Ayres were "much friendlier" or "much more friendly" than the American people realized, and that "everyone in the press" knew about it [but with the implication being that those in the know were determined to censor the knowledge and keep it from being disseminated to the American people].
I only saw this reported on one obscure blog site somewhere [maybe within the last ten days or so], and I've spent much of the afternoon today trying to find the quote [and the blog site], but I haven't had any luck.
So does anyone remember that quote and where it appeared?

I didn’t get to ask Obama about his relationship with Bill Ayers today, but did ask his chief strategist (and reigning expert on Chicago’s political tribes), David Axelrod, about the two men.
“Bill Ayers lives in his neighborhood. Their kids attend the same school,” he said. “They’re certainly friendly, they know each other, as anyone whose kids go to school together.”
He called Ayers current defense of his 1960s bombings “objectionable, and I think Barack would also say that was objectionable. I don’t think he’s ever had an in-depth discussion [with Ayers] about them.”
And he cast the whole subject in the context of Obama’s broader message.
“We can relitiigate again and again these 40-year-old battles,” he said. “He thinks what was done then was wrong and outrageous, and he believes that you can’t defend the indefensible – but he’s looking forward, he’s not looking back.”
UPDATE: There’s been a bit of confusion about Axelrod’s line on the kids, who — as the Guardian’s Daniel Nasaw noted — aren’t the same age. Obama’s kids went go the the University of Chicago Lab Schools, where Ayers kids, who are much older, had gone. However, Bernardine Dohrn is still active at the school, and an Obama aide said that was the connection.

It was at the Chicago home of Ayers and Dohrn that Obama, then an up-and-coming “community organizer,” had his political coming out party in 1995. Not content with this rite of passage in Lefty World — where unrepentant terrorists are regarded as progressive luminaries, still working “only to educate” — both Obamas tended to the relationship with the Ayers.
Barack Obama made a joint appearance with Bill Ayers in 1997 at a University of Chicago panel on the outrage of treating juvenile criminals as if they were, well, criminals. Obama apologists say, “So what? People appear with other people all the time.” Nice try. This panel was orchestrated by none other than Michelle Obama, then an Associate Dean of Student Services. Ayers didn’t happen to be there — he was invited by the Obamas to educate students on the question before the house: “Should a Child Ever Be Called a ‘Super Predator?’”
And here’s how the University’s press release chose to describe this would-be super predator:
William Ayers, author of A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court (Beacon Press, 1997), says “We should call a child a child. A 13-year-old who picks up a gun isn’t suddenly an adult. We have to ask other questions: How did he get the gun? Where did it come from?”
Ayers, who spent a year observing the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago, is one of four panelists who will speak on juvenile justice[.]
The other panelists included “Illinois State Sen. Barack Obama … who is working to block proposed legislation that would throw more juvenile offenders into the adult system.” The goal was to promote change, to actuate the vision of “Chicago reformer” Jane Addams, who’d sought “the establishment of a separate court system for children which would act like a ‘kind and just parent’ for children in crisis.” Never mind the crises they’d caused the victims of their wanton murders and mayhem — the fault for those, surely, was our downright mean society.
The Ayers and Obama, meantime, kept up. There was yet another panel in 2002, Obama and Ayers waxing on “Intellectuals in Times of Crisis.” Dohrn, too, was asked to weigh in, on a panel addressing the question, “Why Do Ideas Matter?” I’m sure it was, er, wild.

Bill Ayers long ago settled into a life of quiet respectability as a well-regarded professor of education and a much-published activist for better schools. With his Ivy League doctorate, 48-page curriculum vitae and liberal politics, he fits comfortably into Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood
But Ayers ‘ unquiet past as a leader of the violent Weathermen during the Vietnam War has been thrust into the Democratic presidential race because of his relationship with a neighbor, Barack Obama.
In Wednesday night’s Democratic debate, Obama was asked to defend his connection to Ayers , which has been fodder for conservative TV and radio talkers for weeks.
On Thursday, neighbors, friends and colleagues who know Ayers and the work he has done on behalf of educational reform in Chicago and nationally joined his defense.
“He’s been a valuable member of the community with regards to education. Helping young people,” said Mayor Richard Daley , who was also friends with Ayers ‘ father, Thomas, a civic activist and former chief executive officer of Commonwealth Edison.
“Bill has contributed heavily to the quality of life not only in the city but in the entire world as well,” Daley said.
Ayers was not at his home or office at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he is a professor of education, for most of the day Thursday and could not be reached for comment.
He was reportedly introduced to Obama in the mid-1990s. The two men served together for three years on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, a grantmaking organization founded in 1941 to help the city’s poor. Obama left the board in 2002; Ayers remains a member.
“He’s admired as an educator and a social justice advocate, and that is why he’s on our board,” said Laura Washington, chairwoman of the Woods Fund’s board. “Everyone has a past. My feeling is he left that period far behind him and since then he has served the community well.”
Ayers , 63, lives in a three-story brownstone with his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, a comrade in the Weathermen and fellow fugitive for most of the 1970s.
Since coming out of hiding in 1980, the couple have raised three boys in Chicago and become part of the fabric of their liberal South Side neighborhood. Neighbors said it’s only natural that Obama would know Ayers and Dohrn, who often open their homes for gatherings filled with lively discussions about politics, arts and social issues.
Obama and his wife “are part of our neighborhood and part of our social circle,” said Elizabeth Chandler, a neighbor of Ayers ‘.
