Editorial: Doug Ose is GOP's best choice in 4th Congressional District
Sacramento Bee ^ | 5/11/8 | Editor

With John Doolittle vacating the 4th Congressional District seat after 16 years, voters will elect someone new. This heavily Republican district stretches from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe and runs up the Sierra Nevada to the Oregon border.

The winner of the June 3 Republican primary will face presumptive Democratic nominee Charlie Brown.

The GOP race features two well-known candidates. Doug Ose is a land developer and former three-term congressman. Tom McClintock is a 22-year state legislator who has been on the statewide ballot seven times. (Suzanne Jones and Theodore Terbolizard also are on the Republican ballot.)

Ose and McClintock have much in common. Both want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Both believe the United States is in Iraq for the long haul. Both advocate property rights.

Ose, with his congressional experience and business acumen, is the better choice. From 1998 to 2004, he represented the neighboring 3rd District, serving on committees important to the region – Agriculture, Financial Services and Government Reform. He would retain his seniority. He was chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy Policy, Natural Resources and Regulatory Affairs that investigated California's energy crisis.

Over the last eight years, congressional oversight of the executive branch has become moribund. Ose, however, knows the role of the Government Reform Committee. He led an investigation into White House reporting and accounting of gifts given to presidents by supporters and foreign dignataries. While issues other than gift-giving may be more important, a commitment to disclosure and oversight is important.

McClintock is a career anti-tax, anti-spending warrior. He was the driving force in the Legislature to abolish the car tax, which has been reduced. He has voted to OK a state budget only five times in 22 years in office. He is proud that he often is a "lone dissenting...

Since Sac-o-bee knows that they can’t elect a true liberal, they’re hoping to defeat the true conservative.

Of course "principle" is viewed as a "weakness" to the Bee

Not to mention, imagine how much further in debt we'd be if McClintock hadn't stood firm on the side of fiscal restraint on the budgets.

Congressman Tom Tancredo Endorses McClintock
Published on May 10, 2008

Tancredo: “I was there” when Doug Ose Voted to give Amnesty to Illegal Aliens

Congressman Tom Tancredo, the founder and former chairman of the bipartisan House Immigration Reform Caucus, has endorsed Tom McClintock for Congress and urged voters not to be fooled by Doug Ose’s claims that he is tough on illegal immigration.

“I was there when liberal congressman Doug Ose twice voted to give amnesty to illegal aliens,” Tancredo said. “He never joined our Immigration Reform Caucus and was never a reliable vote on border control, sanctuary cities or federal requirements for a secure ID.”

“Doug Ose can spend 3 million dollars trying to hide his votes, but it doesn’t change the truth,” Tancredo said. “Don’t be fooled by Doug Ose’s claims. His voting record tells the real story. When he voted to protect ‘sanctuary cities’ from punishment for violating the law and harboring illegal aliens, he showed his true colors.”

The vast majority of the public support measures to improve the enforcement of our existing immigration laws, and overwhelmingly oppose granting amnesty to illegal aliens. Tancredo is steadfastly opposed to any form of amnesty, and has worked to prevent the passage of any legislation that would provide a path to citizenship to illegal aliens, or any expansion of guest worker programs.

A school teacher by trade; Tancredo taught for several years at Drake Junior High before serving in the Colorado Legislature. He worked at the Department of Education for former presidents Reagan and Bush. Tancredo is a member of both the House Foreign Affairs and Natural Resources Committees and is retiring from Congress after the current term.

“Congressman Tom Tancredo was there when Doug Ose voted to give social security benefits to illegal aliens,” said Stan Devereux, spokesman for McClintock. “As a member of Congress, Tom McClintock will carry on Tom Tancredo’s fight against illegal immigration.”

National Rifle Association (NRA) Endorses McClintock
Published on April 30, 2008

Second Gun Organization in as Many Days to Support McClintock’s Congressional Bid
One day after receiving an endorsement from the Gun Owners of America, State Senator Tom McClintock received the endorsement Wednesday from the National Rifle Association. McClintock, who has earned lifetime ratings of A+ from both organizations, is clearly a strong defender of Second Amendment rights.

“As a member of the California State Legislature for almost two decades, you have been a champion for our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage,” said NRA chairman, Chris W. Cox in an endorsement letter to McClintock.

Cox said McClintock has been an outspoken advocate of gun rights and sporting traditions and the NRA is proud to endorse him for Congress.

What further evidence does one need that McClintock is the right man for the job. Any good conservative living in Sacto knows you are batting close to 100% if you vote the opposite of the Bee’s endorsements.
