May 11, 2008 --

Defying disgusted constituents and angry Republican leaders, disgraced Rep. Vito Fossella has told pals he plans to seek re-election.

And, shockingly, the Staten Island pol is feeling "pretty good," he confided to friends.

"I got every indication that he's planning to run again," said Guy Molinari, Fossella's mentor, who's been in close contact with the embattled, 43-year-old politician.

Fossella, a 10-year incumbent, is up for re-election in November.

"He's not just inclined to run. He plans on running," said Molinari, a former congressman and Staten Island borough president who was succeeded by Fossella as the de facto leader of the borough's GOP.

Fossella's goals are at odds with national-party leaders, who have said they won't back him.

Must have a family connection to the Kennedy’s.

I guess he thinks he’s a Democrat. Sexual scandals just seem to help them out. Democrats like cheaters and deviants.

All that said, pushing him out just punishes the wife and kids further.

Looks like the GOP is stuck with Vito and Vitter.

And then there is Craig.

Fossella is the reason republicans are losing. That some of his constituents think his behavior is a ‘personal matter’ only speaks to what is wrong in our country. Somehow, political correctness has convinced many that personal behavior is off-limits in our judgments of political figures. Political correctness is Wrong; all of those who subscribe to it are Wrong. Mr.Fossella is a failed man, who does not deserve to represent so many of us who are better than he is!

“pushing him out just punishes the wife and kids further.”

Not necessarily. He can always become a lobbyist, which is known to pay pretty good.

The people who want to dump this guy from the Republican ticket are the same sort as "Christie" Whitman or Rudolph Giuliani ~ pro-abortionists.

They'd rather have had Fossella kill the kid than let the public know he's into heterosexual sex.

No connection to the Kennedy’s, just a reformed Democrat holding on to bad habits. Fossella’s saving grace is that unlike Ted Kennedy he didn’t kill anyone and will not sell out his country.

Poppycock...The Democrats on Staten Island have an axe to grind with him because he votes against their liberal crap. If he wasn’t driving drunk, I might overlook his other failings. I have zero tolerance for drunk drivers. His conoodling is between him and his family. I don’t need to read about it constantly. The coverage this guy is getting from the New York Daily News is close to the coverage Spitzer got. Hell, Fossella even made the Beltway Boys and the fake news on Saturday Night Live.

“Looks like the GOP is truck with Vito and Vitter.”

The jerks you know are better than the jerks you don’t know. Isn’t it amazing how outraged the Dems get when someone else behaves just like them? To top it off, you aren’t even allowed to mention Clinton, Barney Frank or Ted Kennedy, yet they dredge up the ghost of Richard Nixon at every chance. P.S. I am not condoning bad behavior. I am just tired of the false outrage the Dems are trying to foist off.

“Mr.Fossella is a failed man, who does not deserve to represent so many of us who are better than he is!”

I would hesitate to throw stones. Dude is messed up, sure, but I think the Bible has a few things to say about “..us who are better than he is”. Not that many of us have a second family, admittedly.

Not throwing stones, just stating a fact. Why do you feel the need to defend a liar and a cheater?

Not defending him. Merely uneasy with the statement that ‘we’ are so much better. Dirtbag dingbat or pastor of a megachurch we are all walking around with beams in our eyes.
Plus I don't expect morality in a politician. All I expect is for ‘em to vote and vote in a way that represents my interests; I have an inherent distrust of all government officials; with rare exceptions they are simply smarter criminals who have figured out how to get away with it. I would no more look to a congressman than to a quarterback in the expectation of moral behavior.
