I found out about this this morning as I was going to my place of duty here in Baghdad. Being from Picher, and hearing this news nearly killed me. Thankfully, my family is OK, though according to my Dad, some friends are missing.
He says it wiped out the entire southern half of Picher.
Last night I would have sworn they said 14 for Oklahoma but now I’m thinking they probably said total 14 including Oklahoma since that would be about the difference.
I don’t recall what the Joplin Globe said this morning. I think about 20 or 21 total? I already put it in the recycling bin and don’t want to go after it. :)
Do you know yet if your friends were ever found?
Did you ever find out about your relatives? Seneca and Picher both had deaths. Chances are your family is fine but I bet they have some stories to tell!
So sorry about your hometown, and that this news comes when you are busy defending our freedom. Thanks be to God that your family is okay! And prayers for your friends. Thank you for what you are doing for us over there. You are appreciated! :-)
Glad to hear your family is OK. I had been thinking about Picher and the surrounding area last night.
I remember an old gunsmith who had a small shop on the south side of town, close to the ball field that is now closed. He knew his stuff on Browning shotguns.
There was a machine shop on the north end that did excellent work for my former employer.
Then there was this girl down in Commerce...
But this was all back in the late 70’s early 80’s.
“How about Marshall, MO? Anything happening there?”
I haven’t heard Marshall mentioned. I do know I think the death toll has risen to 10.
Thanks for the info. I pray no more lives are lost.
My mother and her two sons barely made it out of their
home, wearing only the clothes they had on, Mom didn’t
have time to get her medicines.
Thanks for replying,

Wow! At least they are safe I trust.
And thank you for letting me know. Guess it was pretty crazy down there.
Prayers for those who were affected by the storms in OK and other locations yesterday.
Anybody tell me if any of these storms went through Tulsa or nearby areas?
thanks
