Gamma Ray Bursts were first detected by a military satellite used to detect N-blasts on earth. They kept detecting what they thought were false signals until they correlated them with supernovae.

The Hubble technology grew out of the Keyhole satellites the CIA has/ had. From drawings I have seen on TV, they look very similar except that the Keyholes are pointed towards the earth.

Rats!!! I just perfected my Gamma Ray Bomb and now they already have a device to detect it.
