I knew I left a big opening in that statement. Personally, I believe in jury nullification in rare circumstances as I am a supporter of checks and balance. Good judges interpret the law correctly and avoid the need for it.
Irony though, is that while I have the right to a trial by jury, in a lot of cases I'd rather have a bench trial if I was a defendant. That's not always the case, but it is something I'd really consider.

I think I see Bloomberg’s point. The only thing standing in the way of wealthy, powerful politicians proclaiming themselves King is an electorate legally armed by the Constitution.

There should be some cases where you should want a jury trial, and some where you should want a bench trial. It all depends on the nature of the charge and your defense.
