.
Or have a very large family.
Canned goods last the longest and are easier to stack and store.
Tomato sauce/paste....you can make lots of different dishes with that.
Canned mushrooms...goes great with the tomato dishes.
Shortening/ cooking oil. Tuna, soups, stew, and canned meats.
Flour, rice, and pasta. Don't forget powdered milk. It doesn't taste great to drink but its great for cooking.
If you have a freezer you can freeze meat you get in bulk, but you also can freeze butter/margarine, cheese, fruit and veggies.
If bugs are a problem in your area you can use the freezer/s to store the flour/rice/pasta etc. No bugs will get in there and a freezer that is full runs on next to no energy.
I save washed milk jugs and when the freezer gets low you just add jugs of water. If the power goes out a full freezer will stay frozen for a very long time. Chest freezers run much cheaper because the cold doesn't “fall out” every time you open it.
Hope that helps.
I’m watching you too....
Wow! That really helps!
I’m going to cut, paste and print. Thank you so much!
We do have a freezer and the milk jug idea is the best!
OHooo, there is more...
A gallon jug of ice lasts much longer than ice cubes in your ice chest on picnics etc, plus if the power goes out you need that ice to keep the things in the fridge cold.
When that ice melts it's not a problem because it's sealed up in the jug.
If the power goes out and you don't have a large enough ice chest to hold all the food you can use cardboard boxes with lids and the ice jugs. Three days with no power shouldn't be a problem.
A bonus with the CLEAN jugs of ice; if the power goes out, and you have well water, you will still have clean drinking water as the ice melts.
Ha! You’re a wealth of information!
Gotta show the hubby!
Dude, you sure know your jugs!! Thanks!
We were SOoo poor, On Christmas Mom would cut the pockets out of our pants so we would have something to play with.
No one is borrowing money to save money, rather they are borrowing it to spend it.
With a few exceptions, what they buy is going to depreciate, so they are upside down in the purchase (fully funded) from the beginning.
It seems like a house of cards to me, just waiting for a breeze.
I have too many sites bookmarked to send them all to you. Here's a thread that should answer any and all questions you may have. A wealth of info on one thread.
Here is a true treasure of a thread for you...

Some kids are smarter than we think.
Peanut Butter, Spam and energy bars will take you a long way down the trail..
There are several energy bars in this thread and don’t scream when I say, “I do not know the post number”.

Do not forget the water and walking shoes, above can and should be kept in the car and office, as well as at home.
Okay, can anyone help with a shopping list?<<<
It would help if I covered all my thoughts in one post....LOL
The source of my food supplies for years is Walton Feed.com
It is a good source of information, they have links and information pages that will answer any question.
I have always found that the 20# to 50# bags of flour, beans, sugar, oats, etc could be bought and shipped to the home by UPS, for less than I paid in our town.
And the bags come from the different mills, not some warehouse where it has set for years.
Laughing and saying for the record, I am not associated with them in any way, found them on the internet, by accident.
You will find several Freepers that shop there.
Your linked survival site is a good list.
Thanks to both of you for the faith you have in our thread.
Thanks - great list!
Just bookmarked the Walton Feed website. Even though we have our “Mormon Pantry” (no, I am not LDS), I probably need to add to it. My kids laughed at me when I bought 10 pounds of salt last week. Also stocked up on canned meats, tuna, salmon, flour, sugar, rice, beans, cooking oil, etc.
It certainly won’t hurt to be prepared.
Thank you.
Thanks to both of you for the faith you have in our thread.
Some one just starting out on preparing or ways to save money needs to read your thread. I'm proud to send them to your thread and will again should the opportunity present it's self again. :)
Hi RR, they locked the thread on the AQ guy??
This one sounds good too, I will have to read it later.
Waving~~ How are you?
Waving back atcha. Why did they lock that thread on Al Masri?
