Since we have no coherent energy policy, and no national vision, the "Manifesto" sums up my thoughts and amateur research - and I think there may be some common sense in there, too.
Yes, we should have fuel-efficiant cars, but not junk all petro-based transportation. We need to be futuristic, but also realistic and allow capitalism to work unfettered. That's asking a lot from Washington and they just don't think that way any more.
