Immigrants Feel Less Welcome in Frederick
Washington Post ^ | 5-7-08 | Pamela Constable

The changes have also brought thousands of Hispanics, some legal immigrants and others not, who have migrated up Interstate 270 to meet the demand for construction and service jobs. Until now, the county has handled the influx with outreach classes in schools and community policing programs. Chic Hispanic restaurants flourish in downtown Frederick, and working-class Latinos have remained relatively invisible.

Suddenly, however, their presence is igniting a controversy that some fear could escalate into the kind of war over illegal immigration that has torn apart Prince William County. In the past month, the Frederick County sheriff has joined with federal authorities to identify and deport illegal immigrants, and county commissioners have proposed legislation to ban free translation of county business and require public schools to track down students who are in the United States illegally.

I used to love Frederick, but now I don't feel comfortable here anymore," said Concepcion Ramirez, 20, a Mexican-born waitress. "I went to high school here, and everyone was so caring and nice. But people are scared of the police now. Every time you get in your car, you are thinking every single moment of what to do if they stop you."

Are you here legally, and is the car insured? If so, you have nothing to worry about, do you now Connie?

Leave it to the Washington Post to interpret strict enforcement of our immigration laws as the cause that is leading to the destruction of the country.

"We are not going out in a white van with a big net, but we are getting the criminal element of the illegal population out of Frederick County."

All illegal aliens are criminals Sheriff! Hence the word illegal.

I can’t stand it!

They always say immigrants instead of illegal aliens!

I know it’s MSM SOP, but for some reason it’s really getting under my skin today!

With difficulty finding anyone dependable for odd jobs, includes landscaping, limb removal, grading etc many of us are now saying satirically (?) send us up some of your Illegals and we will pay whatever they want!! Dependable help is what is difficult to find!!! Again Dependable is the Tag word. Add to that: Expediency and Fairness in Costs related to the factor.

So it’s not bad enough they come here illegally, lower our wages, steal the jobs of poor blacks, and send their ill-gotten gains back home to Mexico...now we need to make them WELCOME?!?

What I hear now from my southern relatives is that the blacks won’t work so we need the illegals.

Funny how they have been telling us for years that we are moving from a hard manufacturing economy to a service economy. If that is so how is it that these service and construction jobs are jobs that americans won’t do? I know a couple of early 20s kids who are pumping porta-potties just to have a job because they can’t get into a construction job — too many illegals willing to undercut them in pay. Deport their illegal asses, confiscate their property bought through illegally held jobs, send their anchors with them and the anchors can make a decision on country of citizenship when they turn 18; with proper documentation.

Yeah I know, all the yards in Texas won’t get mowed. It’s a chance I’m willing to take. Got to take the bad with the good. I am sick of being forced to learn Spanish and hate the economic burden of supporting these people.
