RIVER FOREST, Ill. — The wife of radio legend Paul Harvey, Lynne Cooper Harvey died at her Illinois home Saturday morning after a year-long battle with leukemia, according to a statement from Harvey's office.

The woman he called "Angel" was 92.

Lynne developed and edited her husband's best-known feature "The Rest of the Story."

A director, writer and editor, and the producer of her husband's radio program, she was the first producer ever inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.

Among her brainchilds were including news features within hard-news broadcasts, and the humorous "kicker," which became a Paul Harvey trademark.

The Harveys met in St. Louis, Lynne Cooper's hometown, at KXOK and married in 1940. Lynne, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington University, began her radio career reporting on educational topics.

She also served on numerous charitable boards, including Prevent Child Abuse America, the USO, the Illinois Mental Health Association, and the Joffrey Ballet.

She was also an enthusiastic contributor to various animal welfare groups.

Paul declared how much his "Angel" meant to him as he received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom at the White House Nov. 9, 2005.

The loss of Paul Harvey's wife is exceptionally sad. She, always quietly and behind the secnes, was a major force in the establishment of what would become Conservative Talk Radio.

Those who know the Harveys often mention what a huge influence she had on the program. She was also Paul Harvey's strength and rock-solid foundation when other, much more liberal network reporters and executives would try to pressure Harvey to abandon his conservative views, which he expresses so elequently.

She was what Colonel Tom Parker was to Elvis, what Nancy was to Ronald Reagan and what Bacall was to Bogie.

When a friend of mine earned a great deal of publicity due to a certain Air Force mission in Vietnam, many reporters here treated him as a war criminal. Angel Harvey took him home for a home cooked meal.

She was is the mother of Paul Harvey, Jr., who is carring his father's pround traditions.

She was a giant in many ways, and will be missed so very much.

Tonight, Angel Harvey sleeps with her angels. FReepers might want to send a card to Paul at 435 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611

I always find the death of a wife before the husband, especially after a long dedicated life together, particularly bittersweet.

Men, simply cannot survive for very long after the love of their life has past.

It was especially moving to hear William Buckley declare on Charlie Rose not long after the death of his wife, that he was tired of life and was ready to enter the next stage.

My prayers to Paul Harvey, this can not be easy for him.

How sad. I betting he probably won’t be far behind, Lord willing.

Paul Sr. is 90, and like anyone at that age, not in good health. He is a little slower to turn a phrase, a little stooped over, and still a giant!

Paul’s voice and program were always a welcome blast from hom when I first got to Japan and lived alone . Learned a lot from him as well . His recommendation of The Children’s Alphabet set ( Forget The ABC’s Phonics-like approach to learning how to read ) influenced my purchase of it , and subsequently thousands of Japanese kids that I’ve taught can read thanks to Paul’s program .

Every time I hear Paul on the radio it takes me back to my dad smoking a White Owl while driving us on a pre-interstate federal highway, passing through small towns.

God bless and keep her in His joyful heaven.
What an incredible couple, and I, too, would
expect Paul to long to join her. May the Lord
comfort his aching heart until that day.

Are you in Chicago?

Most widowers that I know are looking for another wife very soon after their wife's passing. Not that there is anything wrong with wanting someone to fill up the loneliness.

My grandfather had that horrible experience twice when two relatively young (30s/40s) wives died on him from similar cancers. After the second wife passed (my grandmother) he never dated again for the last 2 decades of his life.

I was in FL over 30 yrs, then the
‘04 hurricane season put me on my
knees. Had to finally just get outta
there, and moved to Chicago.

It is a beautiful big city .. a jewel
on the lake. I live right in the middle
of it all, not far from the Lake. What
a galactic shift from living in the peaceful
country suburbs of Central FL. Much there
I truly still miss.

Appreciate your dear tributes to Paul Harvey.
He’s a singularly and extraordinary success
story and the consummate American patriot
and gentleman. A very kind man. I had some
minor dealings with him and his assistant for
my FL job. I think I will send him a card,
bless his heart.

Everytime I have ever listened to Paul Harvey, I have insisted that all present belay the chatter until he's done.

I didn't want to miss "The rest of the story"...there was something special about the way he said it, as if he'd just found something precious...now I know what it was that put that lift in his voice all those years...it was his girl.

That, my FRiends, is romance.
