Washington - The US state of Georgia is set to execute William Earl Lynd on Tuesday, the first use of the death penalty in the United States in more than seven months.

The execution comes after the Supreme Court last month upheld the right of states to use lethal injections, which opponents argued were unconstitutional and amounted to "cruel and unusual punishment."

People like to make fun of Americans’ knowledge of geography, but who is the journalist/editor in India who actually believes that the US state of Georgia borders on Turkey, Armenia, Russia, etc? LOL. I suppose those are all the names of other US states - who knew?

A lesson in the perils of Google searching without a brain....

If your state was known as the home of Jimmy Carter(The worst POTUS ever)you would probably relocate also.

I think if India wants to step out on the world stage, they might want to find out where the world is?

Let him move his sorry self to the Palestinian Authority or Cuba or Iran or Venezuela or North Korea.

I never voted for him! Georgia is a whole lot more than one Plains Peanut Farmer with grandiose delusions.

You can bet we'll see GA’s scumbag and raise a few of our own... real soon. We could take a year off and most states wouldn’t even come close. Not that we're gonna :-)

Ron White put it well... most states are backing off the death penalty and we've put in an express lane.

I often wondered if there was a Georgi associated with this Republic (as our own Georgia is named after King George) — it turns out the answer is no — it is related to words for “earth worker.” (In Greek, it’s ge for earth and ergon for work — which may have been borrowed into another language or two before it became Georgia though.)

If you look at Texas, you’ll see a cycle. Executions go up as state elections get near, and then drop off until the next cycle heats up.
