PHOENIX (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful John McCain says the focus on illegal immigration during the Republican primary season harmed his party's image among Hispanics.
Speaking to reporters in Phoenix on Cinco de Mayo, McCain said that Hispanic citizens want America's borders secured and illegal immigrants to be treated humanely.
He says low-income Hispanic citizens are vulnerable to losing their jobs to the lower wages accepted by illegal immigrants.
On the subject of broader immigration policies, McCain says local governments would not have to take on immigration problems had the federal government overhauled the country's immigration policies.
McCain spoke at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport before his flight to North Carolina.
>Other States need to adopt the same law!
Agreed.
Thank you for your post. - bill
Yeah----McC's shaping up as a Giuliani without the lisp, the blonde wig and the black tights.
Campaign flopping like a blowout on a beat-up jalopy with cheap tires.
I dunno... with all of this global warming causing all of these crazy weather patterns (according to McCain), ya never know if he might get caught in a freak hurricane or sumthin’ before the convention.
Or then there is that killer California earthquake they keep predicting ... at which point, I guess I won’t care who is president. ;-)

Course he’ll deny, deny, deny.
Thank heaven for small favors. ;-)

...”I urge my friends who complain about the influence of the religious Right, get out there and get busy. That’s what they do! Now, if we believe in the Republican party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, the big-tent party, then we have to get out there and show that. The fact is, some of us have sat idly by while those very active people have basically set the agenda for our party. I get attacked every day because I’m working with Ted Kennedy. How can I work with Kennedy? Because I want to get something done!” ...
What’s the yellow thingy?
It is those who refuse to support our Republican nominee John McCain who are the real illegitimate Republicans. You little children are going to end up giving us a Rat for president.
Sadamm Hussein has a job and I don’t
Tonight he will sleep in a big warm bed and I won’t
I still remember GOP suicide.
Who cares if Joe blow out in Iowa lost his job.

What are you suggesting?
I blindly follow no man anywhere. That is what I am suggesting.
Watta genius that phildragoo is, eh, FReepers?
BTW, is it me, or do his arms keep shrinking on the campaign trail?
Mr McCain will be held responsible to his word.....
Good graphic Phil!
Yes, he did a great job!
Thanks, Cal-—nice surfing.
McCain: TWirP, RMSP, Reform Institute, CFR legislation co-author w/Russ Feingold, Comprehensive Immigration Reform co-author w/Ted Kennedy
The fact he served in Vietnam and spent over 5 years in a
North Vietnamese prison does not absolve him of his latest activities and legislative pursuits and the company he keeps, plus, now a Global Warming alarmist to boot.
If the GooP is worried about its image, it ought to take a good hard look at itself and open the convention to a choice that makes sense, regardless who the dem opponent ends up being.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to have either the leadership of vision to do the “Right” thing, rather it seeks to further lurch toward the middle and in so doing, reveals its true colors.
If it does not, it bodes ill for the party and the nation, not exactly an image one would want in the history books to be written in the future by the globalists amongst us.
