I agree with the charge for plastic bags. What a waste! I have used those large Sam’s insulated bags for years, and resent the waste that the throw-away bags produce.
>I agree with the charge for plastic bags.
and naturally, you and the government have the right to tax everyone for their choices when they do not agree with yours.
And you don't feel that this should be left up to the free market, but that Government needs to step in and not ban them but make money off of them?

I read somewhere they cost less than one penny to produce and biodegrade after 4 months.
You're an idiot if you can't find a use for the bags.
I have two cats, and their box is cleaned out three times a day.
I bet you're the type who buys the expensive cinch-tie white plastic mega-bags!
If you are not, there is a box in most stores to recycle your bags.
Leave the rest of us alone!!!
I use canvas bags that I’ve gatherred over the years, not so much to prevent waste but because they’re so strong I’ve never had one break. Intetrestingly, the box-boy always asks, “Paper or plastic?”. This, despite the pile of folded and empty canvas bags on the counter. And my usual response is, “Canvas”, as I point to the bags he’s missed.
Ditto...I hate it when my wife comes home from Kroger or WalMart with 8-10 bags that we have to throw away.
WHOLE FOODS gives 5 -10 cents per bag credit if you bring in any bag - even bags from Kroger.
I HATE WASTE OF ANY KIND.
But, I dont like govt getting this involved. I think more stores should follow Whole Foods’ lead on this...
1. Good for you. You're saving the store a few pennies of profit everytime you use your own bags.
2. Why do you care what other people do? How does it affect you?
We are already paying for the bags. And people use those throw-away bags for other uses as well. Government intervention in Liberty is never the answer.

If I didn’t get the paper bags (to contain my recycling) and plastic bags (to line my small trash cans) I would buy them.
Here in SF, the big chains can’t use the plastic bags any more. So I buy small trash can liners.
And this helps the environment in exactly what way????
I... don't know.
I have started using reusable bags in the last few years and like the fact that I get a nickel back every time I use them. But that nickel probably doesn't make up for the huge number of people who use one-time bags. I help pay for their bags, the time and energy it takes to make them, move them, stock them, refurnish them, etc., and I resent that.
Also, everyone who gripes about the price of gasoline or food needs to have their head examined if they don't use reusable bags - you can argue about recycling, but not using something to begin with uses less petroleum and that just can't be disputed.
OPEC getting less money cannot be a bad thing.
But actually charging a fee? I just don't know if that will solve anything.
