Citing safety concerns, Grayslake officials have forced the cancellation of Sundays Ironhorse Bike Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds.
Grayslake Mayor Tim Perry on Friday released a statement saying the bike show, which was expected to attract up to 20,000 bikers, would not be held as planned.
Based upon the information obtained, the Grayslake Police Department became concerned about circumstances which threaten the health and public safety of those attending the event and the people of Grayslake, the statement from Perrys office read. In light of this new information, Grayslake officials felt that adequate protection could not be maintained and the canceling of the permit for the event was in the best interests of the health and safety of the public.

Sunday's Ironhorse Roundup Bike Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake has been canceled. Some of the scheduled events will still be held at Austin's Saloon & Eatery in Libertyville.
(File Photo) The cancellation throws a wrench in the works for organizers, said Tom Kief, the morning host at 95-WIIL Rock radio station, one of the events main sponsors.
Kief said the station, along with Austins Saloon & Eatery, 481 Peterson Road, Libertyville, are looking for more explanation as to why the event was called off. Kief said they expected more than 20,000 people at the event.
Austins is the host of the fourth annual event, which was to feature many vendors as well as former Motley Crüe front man, Vince Neil. Some events Sunday will continue at Austins, Kief said.
No kidding. When I worked retail, HOG rallies were money weeks. Lines out the door. Just a bunch of people having a good time and not hurting anyone.
Ping.
I don’t get this. Was there a terrorist threat or that? Or just patty waist politicians?
I wonder if the liberals in city hall thought that a biker convention is the same as Gathering of Eagles, and that this was a way of taking a shot at both?
Likely there aren’t many latte-sipping Bush-hating PC libs among Harley-Davidson riders.
Just a certain culture clash, maybe? As in, “these aren’t our kind of people, and we don’t want them around.”
He just calls ‘em as he sees ‘em, Bucko.
I sincerely hope that I never become grouped with that “kind” of people, even by accident. I’ve been a biker for over 50 years and I am always disappointed when I get “looked down on” by “those kind of people”.
