Sharpton announces 'pray-in' to protest NY police killing

NEW YORK - Demonstrators plan to pray on their knees and be arrested for civil disobedience to protest the acquittals of three police officers in the death of an unarmed man shot on his wedding day, the Rev. Al Sharpton said Saturday.

The civil rights activist, who has promised to "close this city down" to protest last month's verdict, said protesters would stage a "pray-in" Wednesday at half a dozen places in the city, including the police headquarters.

Hundreds of angry people marched through Harlem a day after the officers were cleared in the November 2006 death of Sean Bell, 23.

Two friends were wounded in the barrage of 50 shots fired by the undercover officers and two colleagues outside a nightclub where Bell had just left his bachelor party.

Sean Bell was black. His death rekindled long-standing tensions over alleged racism and excessive force by police, even though two of the officers charged are also black.

Bell's fiancee, Nicole Paultre Bell, took his name after his death and plans to participate in Wednesday's protest and any other action "till justice is done."

She spoke to several hundred people gathered at Sharpton's National Action Network headquarters in Harlem, the historically black Manhattan neighbourhood.

Sharpton said participants would gather at 3 p.m. in at least six places around the city and then fan out to undisclosed locations.

"Where we go from there is anybody's guess," Rachel Noerdlinger, Sharpton's spokeswoman, said later, adding that wherever protesters end up, "they'll be arrested praying."

Sharpton said the "pray-in" is the start of whatever actions are necessary to oppose the verdict.

"It's going to be a long struggle, but the race isn't given to the swift or the strong, but to those who endure," Sharpton said.

Not getting much traction with your 'shuttin down the city' movement, eh Al?

Sharpton is gonna have prey-ins.

Prey on their money.

Because his current actions aren’t doing anything for Sean Bell, nor for the officers who had to deal with a person who was drunk, could have been on drugs, was at a lowlife sex-ridden whore/drug/gang party, and was trying to declare civil war on one of the pimps.

Sean Bell was a respectable looking, and most times respectable appearing person, but some of his acts were not.

For instance, beating his girlfriend.

to protest the acquittals of three police officers in the death of an unarmed man shot on his wedding day (AS HE WAS TRYING TO RUN DOWN COPS WITH HIS CAR) the Rev. Al Sharpton said Saturday.

Funny what "journalists" leave out of articles.

This is the danger of the "new" liberalism (really old socialism in a different hoop skirt)...they will begin to use traditional-sounding tactics...dress them up in conservative garb...the election of 2004 showed Democrats they were out of touch with "values voters", so one of their methods will be to disguise their tactics and make them look traditional.

Sharpton is a little easier to see through--but this guy:

is Jim Wallis, an "Emergent Church" so-called evangelical preacher...he is an uber-liberal who thinks abortion and slavery are not parallel human rights issues. Instead, Jim likes to focus on global warming and other favorite leftist issues.

Jim also called for Bush and Cheney to be prosecuted for war crimes.

But since he dresses it up in evangelical language and he is liberal, the left loves him.

I wonder what this a$$hole would have done had it been black police officers that shot an unarmed white man? Apparently that's ok.

Listened to the Monica Crowley Show on WABC radio today and she said that the Rev. Al Sharpton getting hurt by Obama. Rev. Al wants to maintain his status with the Blacks, is jealous of Obama for stealing his theater.
Rev. Al is trying so hard to get on TV, he’s on Fox right now just trying to explain his latest gig and doing it badly. Where did Rev.Al’s Jaguar go when it was towed when he went to lunch last week with. John Conyers? No one knows.

Well, I guess the ‘ol “shutting down New York City” thing didn’t pan out so well, so why not have a little quiet pray in?

Amazing that the MSM, or anybody, gives this blowhard any credence whatsoever. This guy really is just an empty barrel.

I thought the whole shut down the city stunt was supposed to be last Sunday. So how many more empty threats will there be?
