"... tying fishing lines to empty beer cans, then dragging the cans with the catch to shore." Kudos to anyone who can 'splain this. Trout like beer? 'Sup?

I suspect the empty beer cans were being used as floats, with multiple lines hanging below. That way one can lie back and wait for a can to move.
Sort of like a tiny version of the barrels in Jaws. "He can't go down with three Bud cans on him."

Sounds like they were using trot lines instead of a single hook and line.

Mine too! Nobody ever accused these illegals of being dumb - just illegal. Catching trout with beer cans shows signs of higher intelligence.
Ain't diversity wonderful.....?

They use the cans to wrap the line around. They throw the hook and bait and let the line “spool” off the can then retrieve the line by wrapping it back around the can. I have watched them fish this way and is surprisingly effective.

Kudos to anyone who can 'splain this. Trout like beer? 'Sup? It would make sense, beer being based on/ made from grain. Though I somehow doubt that any large brewers are going to be bragging on *Fish drink our beer!* for any sort of advertising testimonial....
