Actually Viet Namese and Laotians have been caught in illegal fishing processes for years. Limits and fishing regulations have no meaning to them. As far as they are concerned they are back home subsitance fishing.

Please! Ignorance doesn’t excuse a US citizen, why should it an alien?

I think you're missing my point: illegals that rob people and take part in gang violence don't get sent back, but illegals that break fishing laws do!?!

I say send them all back, but sheesh, we're spending money to send guys fishing back, and saving money by letting the rapists, thieves and gang members stay?!?

Something's really wrong with that.

Its all right there in the Mexican Gov’t issued pamphlet “Illegal Migrant living in the US on $3 a day”.

I am NOT calling a thread hijack on that, because I've seen illegals fishing with beer cans.

They take mono-filament line, tie it to a beer (or soft drink can) and put a hook and sinker on the other end.

Then, they take the string and wind it onto the can, from the back toward the front. To throw the line, they just use an underhand motion and the weight will pull the line off the can.

One problem, big fish tend to break the line since there is no rod to absorb and shock when the fish takes off. Lots of broken lines and trashed shorelines.

I hope you didn’t misunderstand me. I was trying to be a bit ‘tongue in cheek’ there.

Another novel way to fish is with a Coke bottle (the hourglass shaped ones).

Knot the line around the neck to anchor it. Then, wind the line around the bottle. Attach a casting weight and hook(s) on the end of the line.

Grasp the neck of the bottle and cast the line, just as you would with a rod. The Coke bottle essentially performs as a spinning reel.

If the river were whiskey
And I were a duck
I would swim to the bottom
And never come up

Hmmmmm... Catching trout with beer cans is a new one on me.

OTOH, when I was a kid, one of our best methods for catching crawfish was to toss a bunch of cans (with one end cut open) into the water. Crawdads soon took refuge in the "caves", and all we had to do was scoop up the cans and dump the mudbugs into our bucket...

“What river do they run in”

How does a fish run without legs?

You’re gonna have to show me this in person. I am just not getting it.

Do you just *barely* open the can, drip-drink the beer and?

“Getting fish drunk to catch them is disgusting”

Disagusting!?!

It’s brilliant!

Now ...how to get them to roll themselves in batter and leap into the pan...that is the question...

They don’t use the can like a cork, but rather as a reel. The mono is tied to the pull tab and the can is rotated in a funnel shaped circle with the tab end staying basically still. They guide the line onto the can from the tab end to the other end. Once they get the line wound onto the “reel”, they cover the bottom loop with one or two fingers.

Since the bottom of the can has no seam, it won’t “catch” the line when you throw the bait. To throw the bait, they use a slow-pitch softball pitcher’s motion and the line just slides off the can. Then, they hold the can or stick one in each pocket until the get a bite. The biggest fish I’ve seen caught on those are not much over one pound.

Its not illegal unless you are using foreign beer cans. Bud cans are ok. Being illegals they must have been using foreign beer cans which is illegal since US tax has not been paid on the beer.(anyone that buys that one)

I once wrote about an angler is salt water who rigged a popping cork to a baited line to catch a saltwater trout.
The idea was once the trout was hooked he would stay with the school and you could follow the school around the bay.
