This letter is in regard to Senate Bill 389, the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act, or CARA, passed by both the Kansas House of Representatives and Senate. This bill was vetoed by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on April 21.
It would have given women the choice to see the ultrasound of their unborn baby, medical resources for pregnancies threatened with fetal defects, and legal remedies for abortion fraud and damage. It would have reduced forced abortions and predators using clinics to hide statutory rape. It would have enhanced parental rights, state reporting of, and protection for, sexually abused minors and prosecution of illegal abortion. After the governor's veto, it was returned to the Senate.
Some believe this matter to be "purely a social issue," but when the law of the land says a human life can be struck down at anytime in a pregnancy, then it is not only a social issue, but a legal one. When the most defenseless do not have the right to life, the fact that we have better schools, more health care and an improved economy has no meaning.
The Legislature has an overriding interest to protect the lives of all its citizens, especially the unborn. The final court of appeal in this state is the Kansas Legislature, which has an eminent role to play in the lives of all its citizens.
Indeed, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia stated on April 20 that the abortion issue should be brought up to the people of each state to decide. He further states that abortion is not covered in the Constitution. He believes it is a matter that should be left to each legislature. To do otherwise is to remove it from the democratic process.
Hopefully, with your help, Gov. Sebelius' veto can be overridden. Please contact your senator today to help with this worthy effort. Now is the time for comprehensive reform in Kansas. Even if we do not succeed in overriding the governor's veto, we should never stop seeking justice for the unborn, their parents and their families!
These people are worse than Mengala. They just love to keep on killing babies.
In there minds, they are not killing babies, just running a business. ;-(
Seeing an ultrasound of your baby is really moving. A couple of days ago I was with my wife while she was getting an ultrasound for our first child. I know this sounds silly, but I never knew the baby moved around the way it did (we do not yet know the sex of the child). Hearing the baby's heartbeat and seeing the baby move just hit me like a ton of bricks.
It is genocide. God-willing one day this disgusting practice will be regarded as such... at least in the same way people today abhor slavery.
One can only hope (and pray). ;-)
“...we should never stop seeking justice for the unborn, their parents and their families!” AMEN! Because if we do not, then God must.
The mother, the doctor, the politician may win on earth, but upon their deaths they will face God’s judgement, and there is always justice in heaven.
Too bad our soon-to-be fearless leader John McCain believes that Abortion through Embryonic Stem Cell research(otherwise known as the murder of unborn children) is a good thing.
How anyone can vote for a man who thinks, believes, and supports such a barbaric process is beyond me.
***I know this sounds silly,...***
Not silly at all, pnh. And besides, many a woman has changed her mind about abortion after seeing her child in ultrasound.
Best wishes to you and your wife.
***How anyone can vote for a man who thinks, believes, and supports such a barbaric process is beyond me.***
How? Simple. Because the alternate is one dem or another who “believes, and supports such a barbaric process...”
