ADMITTED TO AFFAIRS BEFORE PROBE

Associated Press

May 2, 2008 --

Gov. David Paterson said Friday that he admitted past marital affairs in part because he feared an "out-of-control" element in the state police that he says was investigating politicians.

The Democrat, who took office in March after the resignation of Eliot Spitzer amid a prostitution scandal, had already called for an investigation into lawmakers' claims that a state police unit was keeping tabs on elected officials.

At that time, though, he wouldn't say if he believed there was such a unit and the state police union said it doubted the unit existed.

But on Friday Paterson said he knew it was operating and it prompted his extraordinary revelations that he had affairs with women years ago when his marriage was in trouble. He has since reconciled with his wife.

Memo to Gov. Paterson:

...and be sure your sin will find you out.

The guy is pretty sharp. He knows that blaming rogue cops for his fear of being exposed is likely to divert serious scrutiny of his activities.

Yeah, right. I thought Spitz put the cops to digging up dirt on his REPUBLICAN competition. Why would Patterson be afraid (unless he’s a closet conservative)

Does this guy not realize that by being Spitzer’s second that he was aligned in the practice he fears? I guess that just sounds better (victim-like) than saying: “After Spitzer went down, I realized that the ‘D’ behind my name didn’t necessarily grant me immunity.”

Great.

The Governor of New York is a paranoiac conspiracy monger.

Big improvement over the last guy.

This guy feared the police becuse he was doing things he shouldn’t have been doing. Such as having affairs with many employees on the taxpayers dime.

If I were NY police, I’d be really pissed off; having this bozo throw me under the bus to divert attention from his infidelities.

This will be a new innovative defense for the ACLU to use.

"Your honor, the only reason my client confessed to the crime is that the police were about to catch him in the act. Therefore, his confession should be thrown out."

In New York, and probably in most other government operations, there could be plenty of blame to throw around and stick. The problem is that nothing is ever going to be done to clean it up.

He lived in fear of his wife, who would rearrange the furniture whenever he displeased her.
