Barbara Walters used an appearance on "Oprah" today to reveal her three-decades-ago affair with a married member of the U.S. Senate: Ed Brooke, the liberal Republican who represented Massachusetts from 1967 to 1979 and the first African-American ever elected to the chamber.

He was the 4th. Hiram Revels, Blanche Bruce and P.B.S. Pinchback were previously elected in the 1870s with only the latter being denied his seat. No Black Dem was elected to the Senate until Carol Moseley-Braun in 1992. No Male Black Democrat was elected until Obama in 2004. The GOP had the plantation party beat by 130 years...
Ed Brooke has certainly fallen in my estimation. I thought he had better taste.
Babwa Wawters, Prestitute.
Who cares? The Brooke family. This elderly lady should keep her silly liasons to herself. She is goofy.
Ed Brooke and the best piece of political graffiti I have ever seen, to wit:
“Ed Brooke is on my black list.” That was posted in the men’s room of the Golden Dome Pub across the street from the Boston State House. At the time, Ed Brooke was the Commonwealth’s attorney general.
Now I see that his is a cur...same for Walters.
per the story she slept with “Ed Brooke, the liberal Republican who represented Massachusetts from 1967 to 1979 and the first African-American ever elected to the chamber.”
Ok there is Ed Brooke but I don’t know that African American fellow’s name. That would have been in or around 1866 I think. You have to admire how Barbara gave a youngster like Brooke a shot too.
Who cares?
Well, at least she didn't stoop so low as to mess around with teenage boys far as we know.
But when I was in the media trade pubs did broach the topic that Baba Wawa was a b**ch. She as talent Would go to Roone Arledge the ABC news prez and get producers and others who worked with her fired.
AND THAT'S A B**CH IN MY BOOK.
Now, let’s think for a moment ... Why would the antiquated Baba Wawa wait until this very moment to provide her imprimatur of approval on white-black relationships? Hmmmm ... oh-ho!
Now, please understand: The issue is not whether there is anything in the world wrong with such. That’s a moot point. The issue is the timing. And, there are no coincidences.
The writer conceivably is trying to rely on the fact that the Reconstruction senators were “chosen” by the state legislatures (per the pre 17th amendment constitution) and thus were not POPULARLY elected, which is they way most writers would have put it.
In another day and age, she would have been called, rightfully so, a whore.
As Richard Burton said of Liz Taylor, “She never had an unuttered thought in her life.”
Doesn’t understand the term “private life”.
I’m sorry, what a low-life, trailer-trash thing to reveal at an interview. Why? She wants to be in the slut-running with BillyBoy?
This thread should be retitled Barf Alert.
Correct, the timing is no coincidence. It’s not however as devious as most poeple are making it out to be. Barbara’s appearance on Oprah was to announce the upcoming release of her new autobiography. This announcement is simply a teaser to promote book sales.
Bingo. A book.
On March 3, 1999, she interviewed Monica Lewinsky in front of a record 74 million viewers, the highest ratings of any journalist interview. Walters asked Lewinsky, "What will you tell your children about this matter?" and Lewinsky replied, "'I guess Mommy made some mistakes,'" at which point Walters brought the program to a dramatic conclusion, turning to the viewers and saying, "And that is the understatement of the century".
Barara Walters dissed Monica for doing exactly what Barbara had done two decades previously.
