Obviously, John Cruzat, USA Swimming's diversity specialist, makes a big bucks doing racial huckstering. Most all "diversity, inc" businesses are creations fed by the Sharpton/Jackson/Feminist Coalition.

In two hundred years, it's still White Man's fault that Blacks don't teach their children to swim?

Bring back Major Lewis -- egads, his theory was that white slave traders were tossing slaves to the sharks enroute by ship to America..... And so the route became known as the "impoverished shark food handout" route.

Wright must have another modified "Hope" poster with a Black Child in swim suit sitting atop the world with sharks grinning around the orb the child is wretchedly sitting on.

My whole life, I've never been in a pool or swimming where blacks have NOT been present.

Not teaching ANY child to swim, hobbles and handicaps that child.

I wish some black person could explain this to me. I have a number of black friends and none of them can tell me what’s going on here.

There are lakes and rivers all around here and you very rarely ever see a black person on the water. We've asked black coworkers and every time they just laugh and claim blacks don't like the water, that they're scared of it. Ok, didn't know a water phobia was in genetic make up.

Back in the day (’50s) my brother, buddies and I used to ride the Detroit buses regularly to municipal swimming pools during the summer. There were plenty of black kids there, too, swimming and having a great time.

That's interesting. Were your black friends actually swimming, or just goofing in the water? I see a lot of black kids at the neighborhood pool who are frolicking around, but if it came to swimming just half a mile to save their lives, they'd be out of luck.

Barack Obama's presidential campaign, until now, has benefited from a strong undercurrent of black nationalism among African-American voters, a racial pride and solidarity that have swelled support and muffled criticism.

Well, Dixie, you are telling him what he can say, but you see nothing wrong with that, until he tells you what to like. You started it. If you don't like people saying "Bush's Fault" then you might not want to open any threads because it is repeated many times in one day and you really have no say in what someone else types as a comment. If you don't want people comming back at you they keep your nose out of their business and I am sure they will keep theirs out of yours. Of the two of you, Dixie, you are the most like a Dem, trying to control what other people say. Disagreement over a person's opinion is expected on FR, telling them they can't say something(as long as it falls withing FR guidelines)isn't.

“So who is going to teach white guys to jump and tough guys to dance?”

The statement “white men can’t jump” is an urban myth. I jumped once...

I seem to remember them swimming, but that was over a half-century ago. Maybe they were just splashing around in the shallow end.

Maybe blacks avoid the water, because they believe that loony black congress critter who claimed that sharks STILL roamed the slave ship routes - due to the millions of dead slaves through overboard..

Sounds like a good idea.

Another problem I see among many kids is that most public pools no longer have a deep end due to LIABILITY!!!!!

Thus, the vast majority of kids no longer ever experience swimming in water over their heads in a controlled situation. Thus, if they ever get into a deep water situation in the water, they are more likely to panic.

Boy Scouts changes that dynamic. To reach a certain lower rank, the scout must jump into water over his head, swim 25 feet, turn, swim back and float.

The swim test entails a crawl stroke for 75 yards, turn, any stroke for 75 yards and I think tread water. If they can’t do that, they cannot take part in any waterfront activities.

My son was afraid to swim although he loved playing in the shallow end. The threat of not advancing as a scout got him to jump in and swim. Now, he loves it.

I believe the Miami Police Dept. has the same issue with black police people. Many do not swim. Maybe that was corrected by now?

I really hope you have the two of us mixed up. I’m the one who enjoys the use of “It’s Bush’s Fault” here on FR. Refer back to posts #23,26,29,31,34 & 38.

It all depends on where you live...ya gotta have water

Dude, where do you think people swim competitively? In a lake, river and/or ocean? Nope - competitive swimming is done in large, Olympic style swimming pools.

Where are these types of pools generally located? To answer this question, where are most large, public/civic type buildings located? You got it - the inner cities of every metro region in the US.

Show me a city with a population even under 50k, and I'll show you a central city pool, gym, H.S., library, etc.

That drives me nuts. It’s been years and years since I’ve seen a hotel pool with a depth greater than 5 feet. Our apartment complex has a beautiful pool area...and it’s only 3 1/2 feet deep from one end to the other. It’s getting harder and harder to find any sort of public or semi-public pool that’s deep enough for a teenager or adult to actually get in over their head.

I didn’t learn to swim until college, because I grew up way out in the boonies, few friends, and my parents never took me to a pool or lake or the beach. The class wasn’t easy, considering my fear of heights/edges was so bad that it took forever to even step off into the deep end. (I never did go off any of the diving boards.) But boy, am I glad I’ve done it. We’re going to start our daughter swimming possibly as early as this summer, she’s two.

That's true. Blacks don't like water or swimming. It's cultural. I'm from a part of the country that is over 40% Black.

What percentage of Black kids can’t read at grade level or drop out of high school. I think that should be a higher priority than swimming lessons.

I learned when I was 6 or 7. I took Red Cross swimming lessons over and over because there was nothing else to do in the summer.
