The two former U.S. Border Patrol agents who were sentenced to prison terms of more than a decade each for shooting at a drug smuggler who dumped a load in the United States, then fled on foot back into Mexico rather than be arrested, must ask if they want clemency in their cases, according to the White House.
"There is a process under which anyone can apply for a pardon or a commutation. And if they want to take advantage of that process, they're absolutely welcome to," Dana Perino, the White House spokeswoman, told WND today.
She was responding to a question from Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, about the case involving Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. It has been a subject of dispute among border control advocates ever since the two were arrested.

He'd rather show loyalty to his Messican buddies across the border.
Bush commuted his sentence in July, Libby dropped his appeal in December.
Don't like my source, find your own.
Interesting.
After Googling “Libby Commuted Appeal”, first two hits say that Bush commuted Libby’s sentence just hours after the Appeals Court denied Libby’s request to delay serving his sentence.
I remember it, too. Google is your friend.
Having voted for all the Bush bunch every time they ran, I have to admit they were merely the lesser of the evils.
Read House of Bush, House of Saud - it details some 1.476 billion dollars invested through the Bush bunch and the Carlisle Group.
Cash on a multi=national scale will prove to be behind President Bush morphing into El Presidente Jorge Boosh.
‘Tis long past time to legalize drugs before any more Americans are corrupted by drug money.
Thanks. I had this vision of an appeals trial going on, but I stand corrected. Libby had a number of appeals going on at the time, apparently.
To be honest, I really didn’t remember until I looked it up.
December 10, 2007: Libby drops appeal
July 3, 2007: Bush Commutes Libby's sentence (so he can stay out of jail pending appeal
It looks like pissant is right. Libby's sentence was commuted months before he dropped his appeal.
Now, anybody know if Libby petitioned for commutation?
Well, I know if I was serving 10 years in prison, and someone told me I had to actually ask if I wanted to get out, I’d just stay in prison instead. The nerve of some people.

Ping.
No, pissant was not “right.” He suggested Libby was pardoned.
Isn’t asking for a pardon the same as admitting guilt. How can a pardon be appropriate if the person is not guilty?
You are correct on that point. But I believe pissant already conceded that, and it was his second claim (that the commutation preceded the withdraw of appeal) that I was checking.
Scooter dropped his appeal after his sentence was commuted.
Let the record show.
Which actually leads me to an interesting conclusion: Bush should just commute the sentences . . . Ramos is certainly deserving.
“Pardoned” does not equal “sentence commuted,” I hope you understand.
PING!
RAMOS/COMPEAN Ping
