It was the President’s photo-op, he’s to blame if it blows up in his face.

As Berlin_Freeper said in the very first reply. Their Mission was accomplished. McCain should have said the same that instead of repeating the left and MSM's lies.

Geez, snotty comments like this from McCain make me really want to not vote for him. I REALLY don’t want one of the Dems to win, but he keeps saying stupid stuff and losing ground with me.

I am pretty sure that the firing of the Iraqi Military was and still is the single largest blunder of that war.

Why?

The early months of the Iraq war, as well as the Gulf war (actually the same war), are going to be studied in military colleges around the world for many centuries. Not for their blunders...but for their impressive accomplishments and minimization of loss of life.

The logistics alone will present case studies that will be required knowledge for all future military cadets.

The coordination of ground and air assaults, working with the indigenous people, working with a multinational force...these were all brilliantly executed.

By criticizing the early months of the war, McCain is going to look like a fool, sort of a George McClellan of the 21st century.

Because it would have been far easier and efficient to vet an already standing force that had a large supply of men willing and able to do the job.

The toppling of Saddam Hussein with minimal loss of life was an impressive achievement. The president who ordered it, and the military men and women who carried it out, have much to be proud of. It is one for the history books.

The fight to keep Iraq free has been a tougher one, and again the president has done an impressive job in holding to his guns, and again the military men and women who have done the job of fighting this second war have done a remarkable job. I am very proud of them.

HOw would you have rooted out the Saddam loyalists that would be set on doing whatever they could to subvert efforts toward a new government?

You would start at the top were you will find the professional soldiers who have risen up the ranks due to their dedication to the regime, you would find those who are willing to help and serve any new government and these people whould further vet the lower ranks. I am under no pretense that it would be simple but right now we have after 5 years only 40,000 Iraqi troops, that is far far less than what we would have had if we had maintained and vetted the original military.

I'm sure McCain's banner would have been so much better:

"1 YEAR DOWN AND 99 TO GO!!"

That and putting Bremer in charge.

There are plenty of hindsight changes to tout, but all-in-all, it's really been a success.

The Bush Administration blunder has been the complete PR failure. The only reason that George W. Bush is held in such low esteem by so many people is the embarrassing weakness of his party leadership and public relations. (Well that, Harriet Meiers, and Amnesty).

A hundred years from now, President Bush will be considered one of our greatest presidents.

McCain is an asshole, but I'm going to vote for him anyway. The alternative is unthinkable.

The next 4-8 years are going to be horrible.
