> Erasing all the words of the enemy seems rather retarded from an intel standpoint.

If there were anything of an “intelligence” nature that could be of any use to the US Armed Forces in these videos, they probably already have it by now.

The plain fact is, this isn’t “intel”, it is enemy propaganda. Nobody learned anything of any value ever by paying any heed to enemy propaganda. It is only of any use to the enemy. It is therefore very sensible to remove this valuable resource from the enemy: it is most certainly not doing America any good by being publicly available on YouTube.

> Sooo.. you want to censor videos you don’t like?

During a time of war, Censorship is a perfectly valid and sensible thing to do. The right to Freedom of Speech is not absolute and never has been: certainly not during wartime.

> Well, Sieg Heil to you too!

Aside from being an unnecessarily unpleasant way to express yourself, I think your point is a valid concern with regards the Freedom of Speech. It deserves addressing:

Does an enemy at war with the United States have any reasonable right or expectation of Freedom of Speech, from a Bill of Rights perspective?

Jeez, I hope not. Commonsense would say “no”, but I am a foreigner so I don’t really know the United-States-constitutionally-correct answer to that question.

If the answer is actually “yes”, then your point is correct and the Smackdown is thus not a very nice thing to be doing to the Enemy, from a Bill-of-Rights viewpoint.

In which case, perfect! You’re not supposed to do nice things to your enemy when you are at war with him. You are supposed to be unkind to him to the maximum possible extent permitted by the Laws of War. Depriving the Enemy of a constitutionally-protected Right to Free Speech is therefore an excellent thing to do during a time of war.

(I would have also thought that stacking their illegal combatants in a naked pyramid, or putting underpants on their heads would also have been OK, but apparently not. Go figure...)

I am certain that, if Osama bin Laden were to want to present himself to the Justices of the Supreme Court to take out a constitutional challenge because his Freedoms of Speech were being violated, nobody would mind at all.

If, on the other hand, the answer is “no, the enemy does not have a constitutionally-protected right to Free Speech”, then perfect again: the Smackdown is therefore a perfectly fair and sensible thing to do to the Enemy.

No point giving the Enemy rights that he does not have. You can be certain that the Enemy would not reciprocate the favor, were your circumstances reversed.

So either way, the Enemy’s videos ought to be Smacked down. Your Bill of Rights says so.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION:

The DNC apparently thinks that it's a great idea to politicize the deaths
of our brave ones and have decided to use video very similar to that which
we are battling on YouTube every day in an anti-McCain ad.
Regardless of your view of John McCain, using the deaths of our soldiers
in a political ad is morally reprehensible.  If you have the time, please
see this thread and then voice your displeasure with the DNC.

Steps for flagging videos (H/T to rawcatslyentist):

#1) If you don’t have a YouTube account, go sign up for one. You don’t have to use it for anything but this.

#2) Click one of the links below, let the video start and then click the pause button on the player so you don’t have to actually watch the propaganda.

#3) Below the video, click “Flag as inappropriate.”

#4) Choose “promotes hatred or violence”

#5) Where it says “please indicate the group attacked” choose National Origin.

#6) Where it says “provide additional information.....” type or copy/paste in the below statement.

Providing services to terrorists violates executive orders 12947 and 13224.

So — you got game? If you do, here’s your first list — a couple of the videos have already been Smacked Down! WOOHOOO!! Let’s get the rest!

On reflection, I guess there also remains the question of artistic merit: should these videos be preserved and not censored on the basis of their artistic merit?

I’ve watched every one of the videos I’ve flagged, just to be sure of their content. I’m not a connoisseur of fine art, granted: most people who know me would judge my tastes to be rather Philistine.

That said, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — of artistic merit in any of these videos. Even though most of Hollywood appears to be on the side of terrorists, I think we can sleep safely knowing that there are no latent Academy Awards waiting for these terrorist porn flicks. The Cannes Film Festival will not miss being deprived of any of these. And none of the film producers will languish for want of the Pulitzer Prize. Not even the Smithsonian Institute would want any of these preserved in any of their collections.

So, no artistic merit, no reason not to get rid of the whole jolly stinking filthy lot.

If there are any qualified art critics who disagree with me, I’d welcome them to chime in quickly, before it’s too late. Mr Silverback is getting ready to do his next bombing run, and I rather think he is intent on destroying every single one of those videos. So am I, for that matter...

Excellent reasoning. Maye we need to import our next few Supreme Court Justces from New Zealand. In the meantime, I hope post 307 and the preceding posts amuse you.

Peace through superior firepower, mate. ;-)
