According to new information leaked by western intelligence sources, a special ground forces unit reached the Syrian reactor from Iraq. In the weeks that preceded the bombing of the site, the force stayed in Iraqi territory with the knowledge of the U.S. military, and with its assistance. The details are reported by www.sigint.co.il, which does not name the unit because of censorship but says it is "an operational unit which works alongside a well-known intelligence organization."
The unit reportedly stayed near the Iraqi-Syrian border during August and September of 2007, documented the site's construction and "marked" it before its destruction. It was not clear from the report whether this "marking" refers to laser-marking of targets for fighter-bombers, or to something else.
The unit reportedly received assistance from "local elements" who are hostile to the Syrian regime. The report notes that Kurdish fighters maintain a permanent presence in the area and have been known to assist western intelligence operations.
Ping!
Fascinating. How reliable is this source, btw? Any idea?
Joint MI & SOCOM Ping.
“[I]nformation leaked by western intelligence sources” can be anything from the head of MI6 to the local barber in Montmartre, Paris.
:-)
Haha.
I don’t know how reliable the source is, but I would have to believe it’s true.
Early on there were reports that we or the Israelis even had personnel “on site” collecting evidence before it was even hit.
And then, somehow, the place got all blown to hell.
:)
So when is it going to happen to Iran
Boy, is this revelation going to anger Speaker Pelosi!
We had knowledge of this operation before it happened? Ouch!
Now it’s time to turn to the east and remodel the Iranian program.
The game’s afoot! Tally-ho!
>>Early on there were reports that we or the Israelis even had personnel on site collecting evidence before it was even hit.
There are pictures floating around that were obviously taken on-site.
Interesting—I love spy stuff, undercover work, etc. But now it comes to mind, that those who pray for our soldiers, especially those soldiers whose missions are secret, should also pray for those natives who support our soldiers. When I read of the Kurdish fighters, fear ran through me in remembrance of images of the dead, poisoned by bio-warfare. I, a Christian, will pray for the safety of all Good Samaritans.
I don’t know how anyone would know for sure since the Russian Radar Equipment failed so badly.
THAT part of the op makes me smile really big
The SOF unit the article mentions is probably Israel’s Sayeret Matkal. They cooperate with Mossad on many of their operations.
Probably logging GPS coords in and around the site, setting nav beacons, and possibly jamming equipmnent. With several weeks to work with they probably had the facility wired for sound. I imagine they proabably have some very nice hi res video of the attack taken from outside the facility by ground observers.
Ping and index before Vista bounces me again for the hell of it
On a more serious note I would like to see some of the pictures taken “on the ground” before the air strike as referenced in this thread. Anyone have a link?
There's little doubt that the operation was underway before Pelosi met with Assad.
Similarly, there's no doubt that, had she known about the operation, she would've told Assad.
