The Pentagon has ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran, CBS reported Tuesday, as a second US aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf. According to the report, the planning was being driven by what one officer called the "increasingly hostile role" Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said that "what the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and -women inside Iraq."
CBS said that US officials were also concerned by Iranian harassment of US ships in the Persian Gulf as well as Iran's still growing nuclear program. The television channel cited new pictures of Iran's uranium enrichment plant which showed the country's defense minister in the background, in an apparent deliberate attempt to mock the recent New Intelligence Estimate which said Iran had ceased work on a nuclear weapon.
Last week, Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen warned Iran not to assume the US military can't strike. Targets would include everything from the plants where weapons are made to the headquarters of the organization known as the Quds Force which directs operations in Iraq, CBS reported. Later this week Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is expected to confront the Iranians with evidence of their involvement in fueling the Iraq insurgency and demand a halt.
If that doesn't produce results, continued the report, the State Department has begun drafting an ultimatum that would tell the Iranians to cease their activities - or else.
Gates said Tuesday that sending a second US aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf could serve as a "reminder" to Iran, but he said it's not an escalation of force.

What’s wrong with the old plan?
lol. I actually thought of using that clever quip but chickened out.
Isn't that the Dem's attack plan?
Isn't that the Dem's attack plan?
Little house dogs bark, too. Do your job, Mr. Secretary. Take care of business in Iran to secure our Nation. Don’t restrict your action to yapping at the mullahs. Don’t hand your duty off to an old hag. No man will really fight with a worn out battleaxe as commanderess-in-chief.
Whats wrong with the old plan?
:::::::
That was my thought...the plan that involved about 20,000 MOABs and “Cookie Cutters” ..... that should do it :-)
As soon as the Pentagon creates those war plans CBS will leak them to our enemies.
Hell, I’m not even afraid of “cookie cutters”.
He he.
Send in our secret weapon!!
Nancy Pelosi!
Ha- Ha- Ha !
Nancy Pelosi? That would be a clear violation of the Geneva Convention.
Imagine dropping millions of leaflets on the Iranian troops with Pelosi’s picture on them!
In a bikini!!
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ........
Not another “We’re getting tough with Iran” story?!
Wake me when the HARMs are away.....
I think it is time to make up a new deck of cards.
We may have a plan, but we sure don’t have any leadership with the huevos to execute it.
Our current plan vis-a-vis Iran is to let them kill as many US military people as they like, and do it with total impunity.
Its called cruel and unusual punishment.
I’m pretty sure the Geneva convention does not allow for such atrocities.
Roll to what? Dropping a few bombs on them probably won't accomplish a dammed thing.
It WILL look great on TV though....
The old plan is fine.
The new plan is saying you're coming up with a new plan, just to rattle the Iranian cages!
Inexpensive and effective!
